More Classic Disney and Pixar Re-Releases Coming in 2012 and 2013

Who can argue with success?
Following on the heels of the extraordinary popularity of Disney’s recent theatrical re-release of its classic animated feature The Lion King, the company has announced that it plans more of the same for some of its biggest films over the next two years.

Unkrich Begins Work on Next Project with Promise to Keep Fans in the Loop

Lee Unkrich, director of some of Pixar’s most memorable films, is hard at work on his next project.
No word whether it’s the highly conceptual “trip inside the mind,” untitled and scheduled for release in 2014 or possibly even the next installment in the Toy Story franchise, but he promises to keep fans abreast of the progress.  Yesterday morning, he tweeted about the updates:  “Today is day one on my next project. Disney Pixar Announces Two New Films at D23 Expo

While D23 Expo has just about wrapped up in Anaheim, California, we’re still learning of announcements that took place over the weekend.  Disney Pixar, for instance, has announced two brand-new, not-discussed-before films, which are scheduled for release November 27, 2013 and May 30, 2014.
The first film will be centered around dinosaurs, and has been anticipated for almost two years.  A brief teaser synopsis from the studio reads:
What if that life-changing asteroid missed Earth? Director Bob Peterson’s hilarious tale depicts a world where dinosaurs never went extinct.

‘Cars 2′ DVD/Blu Ray Available November 1 and Will Contain a New Pixar Short

Fans of Cars 2 will want to take note:  the DVD/Blu Ray combo package will go on sale the first day of November.
In addition to the film, customers will enjoy a previously unmentioned short, starring everyone’s favorite tow truck, Mater.  From the clip released by Entertainment Tonight, it appears that Air Mater will feature, well, a flying tow truck.  Also included on the disc will be behind-the-scenes footage of Cars Land, currently under construction at Disney California Adventure Park.

John Lasseter Does Not Deny Possibility of ‘Toy Story 4′ in BBC Interview

Early Monday morning, Disney Animation bigwig (and Cars 2 director) John Lasseter found himself in a predictable hotseat:  answering questions about a fourth installment to the Disney Pixar Toy Story franchise.
While sitting down with the BBC to discuss Cars 2, which opens this Friday in the UK, the conversation eventually came around to Tom Hanks’ remarks about the fact that creation of Toy Story 4 is underway.  Lasseter had this to say about Hanks’ comments:

“I found that very interesting too.  Yeah, it was really interesting! Well, we haven’t announced anything yet.”

Tom Hanks Confirms More Toy Story to Come – in Two Separate Interviews

We may not have seen the last of Woody and the Gang.  Yippee!
Recently, Tom Hanks was interviewed by the BBC regarding the release of his latest film, Larry Crowne.  As the subject came around to Toy Story, the interviewer asked if Hanks’ new granddaughter would get to see a fourth installment to the critically acclaimed and wildly popular Disney Pixar franchise.  Hanks’ response:
“I think there will be, yeah. Yeah, yeah. I think they’re working on it now,”

First Still Available from Disney Pixar’s ‘Brave’

We have a copy of the first still available from the upcoming Disney Pixar release, Brave.  Thanks to The Pixar Blog for posting it. 
While it isn’t clear if the still comes from the teaser trailer that will be released with Cars 2, it is our first glimpse of Princess Merida, the heroine of the film, voiced by actress Kelly McDonald.
Brave is due in theatres during the summer of 2012.

Disney Pixar Confirms ‘Brave’ Teaser Attached to ‘Cars 2′

Audiences will have their first look at Disney Pixar’s Brave this summer when Cars 2 hits theatres in June.
Pixar’s latest film is the innovative studio’s first foray into serious historic storytelling, as the tale is set in Scotland during medieval times, and will feature a heroine in the lead.
Look for the theatrical trailer, which will be a teaser, when Cars 2 arrives in theatres June 24.

New Details Emerge about Disney Pixar’s ‘Brave’

New concept art from Disney Pixar’s upcoming “Brave” was posted at Entertainment Weekly online earlier this week, and gives fans an eyeful of the amazing scenes we can expect to see when the feature arrives June 22, 2012. In addition to the artwork, EW’s piece also mentioned several more details about the film, including the fact that Reese Witherspoon won’t be voicing the lead character Princess Merida. Due to scheduling issues, Witherspoon was replaced with Scottish actress Kelly Macdonald.

Screenwriter Suing Disney and Pixar for ‘Cars’

Jake Mandeville-Anthony, a U.K. based screenwriter, has filed suit against Disney and Pixar for alleged copyright infringement and breach of implied contract. Mandeville-Anthony claims that “Cars” and “Cars 2″ are based on characters and a story he shopped around to several production companies in 1993.
The lawsuit was filed on March 14 in U.S. federal court, wherein Mandeville-Anthony states that he had “sent copies of his works to various production companies, including Disney” and also alleges that he met with Jim Morris in person to give him copies of his project. At …
