Walt Disney World Resort Providing Free Insect Repellent to Guests

The Walt Disney World Resort is providing guests with free insect repellent as a preventative measure in the fight against Zika, the mosquito-borne illness.
The theme parks and Disney Springs will have several types of mosquito repellent and the resort hotel rooms will have aerosol bug spray for guests.
Disney is also adding signs informing guests how to protect themselves against Zika.
These preventative measures come on the heels of reports of Zika in Miami and Pinellas County.

Disney Magic Kingdoms Game Now Available for Download

There’s a brand new game for mobile devices that lets players build their very own Disney theme park.
Disney Magic Kingdoms takes players on a “mighty quest” with Mickey Mouse and friends as they rescue the kingdom’s magic from evil forces.
Players can build attractions including Space Mountain, California Screamin’, and it’s a small world.
Characters in the game include Mickey Mouse and friends from Disney/Pixar’s Wall-E and Toy Story plus characters from Tangled.
Disney Magic Kingdoms is available for download now in the App Store, Google Play, and the Windows Store.

Shanghai Disney Resort Set to Open in June

The Shanghai Disney Resort will celebrate its grand opening on June 16.
The “one-of-a-kind, world-class destination” will host a grand opening celebration on opening day and welcome its first official guests.
According to Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger, the resort “reflects Disney’s legendary storytelling along with China’s rich culture.”
Shanghai Disney Resort will be home to two resorts – Shanghai Disneyland Hotel and the Toy Story Hotel. Guests will also discover a recreation area and a unique retail, dining, and entertainment district.

The Walt Disney World Resort has just announced new pricing for its Memory Maker.
The Memory Maker gives guests unlimited Disney PhotoPass digital downloads during their Disney vacation. The product is now priced at $149 for the advance purchase and $169 for the standard purchase.

Walt Disney World Resort Bans Selfie Sticks at Theme Parks

Put the selfie sticks away, please.
That’s the word from Walt Disney World Resort – as of June 30, selfie sticks will be officially banned from all four theme parks.
Selfie sticks will also be banned at Disneyland Resort in California, Disneyland Paris, and Hong Kong Disneyland.
Prior to this all-encompassing ban, selfie sticks had been prohibited on attractions at the Disney theme parks.
Now, guests entering any of the Disney World theme parks be searched for selfie sticks at the bag check area – presumably this means having your bags checked for the …

Enchanted Storybook Castle at Shanghai Disney Resort Topped Out with Golden Spire

Construction at the Shanghai Disney Resort reached a milestone this week as the golden spire was placed on top of the tallest tower on Enchanted Storybook Castle.

New Disney Parks Attractions to be Based on New ‘Star Wars’ Films, Not Original Films

It’s official – sort of. Star Wars is going to have a bigger presence at the Disney Parks around the world, but there’s no word yet on what the means as far as attractions or something else entirely.
Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger revealed that new Star Wars-themed attractions at the theme parks will be based on the new films and spinoff films rather than the original films.
The announcement came at a Dealmakers Breakfast sponsored by Variety magazine earlier this week.

Walt Disney World Resort Conducting Search for Two Disney Ambassadors

The Walt Disney World Resort is once again searching for cast members to fill the roles of Disney Ambassadors.
the Disney Ambassadors program started during Disneyland’s 10th anniversary when Walt Disney chose the first Ambassador. Since 1971 there have been 72 Walt Disney World Ambassadors.
Every two years cast members are invited to participate in the selection process which includes several rounds of interviews. Finalists are given an opportunity to interact with cast, visit non-profit organizations, and test their media interview skills.

Disney Making Plans for a Bigger ‘Star Wars’ Presence in Theme Parks

Disney has big plans when it comes to Star Wars and the company’s theme parks.
During a conference call to discuss third quarter results for The Walt Disney Company, CEO Bob Iger made it clear that the company is planning a greater Star Wars presence in the near future.
Iger said the company plans to release the first look at new Star Wars themed attractions next year. Disney and Lucasfilm are also hosting a Star Wars Celebration on April 16-19, 2015 in Anaheim.

The Walt Disney Company Releases Third Quarter Earnings for Fiscal Year

The Walt Disney Company has released its fiscal year third quarter earnings report.
The report showed that the company’s Parks and Resorts division had another successful quarter with revenues increasing 8 percent to $4 billion and operating income increasing 23 percent to $848 million.
The higher operating income was due to increased guest spending and higher attendance. The increase in guest spending was partially due to an increase in ticket prices, and increased spending for food and merchandise.
