Video: ‘Lincoln’ Trailer Released

We’ve been eagerly anticipating Stephen Spielberg’s upcoming film Lincoln, which stars Daniel Day-Lewis as Abraham Lincoln himself. Now, the official trailer for the film has been released, giving us our most in-depth look so far at this exciting new film.

DreamWorks Replaces Disney With New International Distributor

Walt Disney Studios and DreamWorks Studios altered their long-standing distribution deal this week, which previously allowed Disney to distribute and market DreamWorks’ films both domestically and in countries all over the world. This week, DreamWorks replaced Disney with a new foreign distributor, Mister Smith Entertainment.
The new change comes as a result of DreamWorks’ financial resources being significantly decreased following several recent high-profile flops, including Cowboys & Aliens and I Am Number Four. First Look at Daniel Day Lewis in “Lincoln”

Steven Spielberg’s biopic Lincoln focuses on the last four months of the president’s life, as well as the strategies he employed to outlaw slavery forever. Now, we have a first look at Daniel Day Lewis in the title role of the film – doesn’t he look uncannily like our former president?
DreamWorks Lincoln will see a limited release in theaters beginning November 9, with a wide release November 16. In addition to Daniel Day Lewis, the film also stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Jared Harris, David Straithairn and Sally Field.

Disney Names Alan Horn as Chairman of Disney Studios

The former president of Warner Brothers, Alan Horn, has been named the new chairman of Walt Disney Studios. He will take over responsibilities beginning June 11 and replace former chairman Rich Ross, who resigned from the company in April.
Horn’s new responsibilities will extend to Pixar and Marvel as well as Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks Studios, which uses Disney for marketing and distribution purposes. Additionally, Horn will oversee Disney’s Hollywood Records and their Broadway division.
Says Horn, who retired from Warner Brothers last year:

Celebrate Family with Sprinkles Cupcakes and DreamWorks Pictures’ ‘People Like Us’

Who wants free cupcakes?  Good!  Now that I have your attention, let me tell you how to get them.
DreamWorks Pictures has announced that they will be teaming up with Sprinkle Cupcakes to promote DreamWorks’ upcoming dramedy, People Like Us.  The movie, due in theatres June 29, chronicles the ups and downs of family relationships.  To celebrate, Sprinkle Cupcakes will be giving away free cupcakes on family themed holidays in May and June.

David DiGilio to Write Screenplay for ‘Tron: Legacy’ Sequel

Disney has hired David DiGilio to pen the sequel to a sequel, as the writer will create the next installment in the Tron series.
While the sci-fi thriller opened to a less than stellar response, earning only $44 million in the first weekend of its release, it managed to pull in $400 million worldwide during its theatrical run, and additional revenue with sales of DVDs and Blu rays.
To date, DiGilio has written mostly for television.  He created the short-lived Traveler series for ABC Television, and successfully pitched a sci-fi thriller, entitled Last …

Release Date Pushed Back for ‘Monsters University’

Last week, we reported that the prequel to the smash Disney/Pixar hit Monsters, Inc. entitled Monsters University would be released November 2012. Now, Disney/Pixar have announced that they’ve pushed back the release date; we can now expect the new film to be released June 21, 2013.
Instead, Disney’s toon Ralph’s Reboot will open on November 2, 2012 in place of Monsters University. With its new release date, the film will open two weeks after the release of Turbo, a DreamWorks Animation and Paramount release.

‘Toy Story 3’, ‘Day and Night’ Garner Annie Awards Nominations

The International Animated Film Society announced on Monday that both “Toy Story 3” and the animated short “Day and Night” had been nominated for Annie Awards.  While “Day and Night” was nominated in one category, for Best Animated Short Subject, “Toy Story 3” was nominated for three awards:  Best Animated Feature; Directing in a Feature Production (for Lee Unkrich); and Writing in a Feature Production (for Michael Arndt.)
