Director Andrew Stanton Comments on ‘John Carter,’ ‘Finding Nemo 2’

Last spring, Walt Disney Studios released John Carter, a sci-fi film helmed by Pixar director Andrew Stanton that went on to become one of Hollywood’s most high-profile flops in recent history. This week, Stanton reflected on his experience with the film in his first interview since the film’s release.
The interview, conducted by the LA Times, looks back on the film’s creation and some of the challenges that Stanton faced in transitioning from animation to live-action directing, such as the high cost and negative stigma attached to reshoots in live action …

This achievement is largely in part due to the overwhelming success of The Avengers, which has grossed $611.1 million domestically so far.
With this milestone reached in just 188 days, Disney has set a new record for themselves, beating out 2010’s pace of 210 days to reach the $1 billion mark. This is the seventh year in a row that Disney has achieved this …

Disney Hires Dave Green to Direct Untitled Wolf Adventure Film

With the $200 million loss from John Carter and the move to put the live-action Snow White remake Order of the Seven on the back burner, Disney seems to be moving away from big-budget films in favor of their lower-budget counterparts.
Along that line, Disney has tapped Dave Green, a prolific director of music videos and commercials, to helm an as-yet-untitled “wolf adventure” film for the company.
We don’t know much about this film, but we do know that it’s slated for production this fall. Andrew Panay will produce. We’ll keep you …

Disney Announces ‘Avengers’ Sequel

With Disney’s The Avengers breaking box office records – grossing $207.4 million in its opening weekend – it’s no surprise that Disney officially announced plans for a sequel yesterday.
After the disappointing profit loss from John Carter, Disney was counting on The Avengers to make up for it. It’s safe to say that this film, which has earned more than $700 million worldwide, has done just that.

Rich Ross Resigns as President of Walt Disney Studios

A major shakeup occurred at the Walt Disney Studios yesterday, as studio president Rich Ross announced his resignation. Formerly the president of Disney Channels Worldwide, Ross was reportedly pressured to resign following the financial disappointment of John Carter, which cost the studio $200 million in losses.
Ross took the position of studio president two and a half years ago, when Disney CEO Bob Iger dismissed former studio head Dick Cook and replaced him with Ross, a controversial decision due to Ross’ lack of feature film experience. As the president of Walt …

It remains unclear whether Disney will produce any sequels to the film, but Kitsch made it known that he would be completely on board if such a thing were to occur. Says Kitsch:
I’m very proud of ‘John Carter’. Box office doesn’t validate me as a person, or as an actor. I’d love to go do ‘John Carter 2. I really would. It’s just s***ty I don’t get to work …

Disney Losing $200 Million on ‘John Carter’

After a disappointing $30.2 million opening weekend, profits weren’t looking good for Disney’s sci-fi flick John Carter.
Sources say the film reportedly took $250 million to produce, and another $100 million to market. Despite the dismal opening weekend, Disney hoped that the hype would prove profitable, especially when the film earned a B+ rating from CinemaScore audiences. That proved not to the the case, however, since John Carter plummeted 55% last weekend.
Because of these dismal numbers, Disney released a statement yesterday saying they expect to take a write-down of $200 …
