Disney Developing ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Sequel

Sources are reporting that Disney is currently developing a sequel to Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, which earned over $1 billion worldwide for the studio.
Disney hired award-winning screenwriter Linda Woolverton to pen the sequel’s script. Woolverton has worked on several Disney films in the past, including the first Alice as well as Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, and the forthcoming Maleficent.
So far, the studio is keeping plot details for the planned sequel under wraps, but we’ll let you know more as soon as new information becomes available.

‘Maleficent’ Starring Angelina Jolie Begins Production

Today, The Walt Disney Studios announced that production has begun on the highly anticipated live action film Maleficant, starring Academy Award©-winning actress Angelina Jolie.
The film will tell the backstory of Sleeping Beauty’s villain, and explains what led to her bitterness and her reasons for ill will toward the Princess Aurora, which culminates in her placing a curse on the infant child.

Rob Ashford Rumored to Be Hired for Disney’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Stage Musical

While the stage adaptation of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland is still several years from coming to fruition, sources say that Disney Theatrical has hired Broadway director and choreographer Rob Ashford, although both the company and Ashford have denied commenting on the truth of this.

‘Maleficent’ Release Date Announced

Starring Angelina Jolie in the title role, Disney’s Maleficent now has an official release date. The film will debut in theaters March 14, 2014.
Directed by Robert Stromberg with a script by Linda Woolverton, the live-action Maleficent will delve deep into the story behind the title character, including her origins and what made her place a curse on Princess Aurora.

Tim Burton Not Directing Disney’s Live-Action ‘Maleficent’; Angelina Jolie Reportedly Still on Board

Sources recently reported that Tim Burton, who was originally in talks to direct Disney’s Maleficent, has moved away from the project. While Burton had only been loosely involved with Disney’s take on revamping Sleeping Beauty into a live-action film, he was involved enough to the point that Disney had hired Burton’s Alice in Wonderland collaborator Linda Woolverton to write the script. Woolverton also wrote the script for Disney’s The Lion King.

Is Tim Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Being Developed for the Stage?

According to Playbill.com, Disney Theatrical Productions has lined up it’s next big thing:  an adaptation of Tim Burton’s 2010 hit film “Alice in Wonderland” for the stage.
Disney executives have held meetings with Burton, the film’s director, and screenwriter Linda Woolverton, who also penned “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Lion King” screenplays.  Woolverton is also credited as  the book writer for “Beauty and the Beast” for the stage (which garnered her a Tony nomination), “Aida,” and “Lestat.”  Burton would oversee the production, but will not direct it, while Woolverton would adapt the screenplay for …

Alice Writer Hired To Pen Maleficent

Disney has hired Linda Woolverton, the scriptwriter for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland to write the upcoming live-action Maleficent, a remake of Disney’s animated Sleeping Beauty from the villain’s perspective.
This choice is being seen as a part of Disney’s campaign to sign Tim Burton on for director of the film. No deal has been made with Burton, yet, but the hiring of Woolverton is the first concrete step forward in its development.
Woolverton has also written for Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King.
