Metal Detectors for Magic Kingdom Moved to Transportation and Ticket Center

The metal detectors that are currently located just outside the gates for the Magic Kingdom are on the move.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the metal detectors will be located at the Transportation and Ticket Center beginning next Monday.
Guests who drive to the Magic Kingdom and arrive at the TTC will go through the metal detectors prior to boarding the Monorail or ferry boat.
The guests who arrive to the Magic Kingdom via Monorail or ferry boat will not need to go through security once they reach the theme park. However, guests …

Redesigned Epcot Starbucks ‘You Are Here’ Mug Back on the Shelves

A few months after being removed from the shelves at Epcot’s Fountain View, the Starbucks ‘You Are Here’ mugs have returned to the theme park.
The original mug featured a Monorail sporting a purple stripe – the same color of the Monorail involved in the fatal crash that killed driver Austin Wuennenberg in 2009. The purple Monorail mugs were quickly removed from the shelves.
The new mugs were spotted at Epcot’s Starbucks location earlier in the week and the Monorail now features a gray stripe.

Disney Pulls Epcot Starbucks Mug Featuring Purple Monorail

The recently-introduced “You Are Here” Starbucks coffee mugs at Epcot have been pulled from the shelves by Disney.
The Epcot mugs are part of the “You Are Here” series from Starbucks and featured Epcot icons in shades of blue, gray, and purple. The mug also featured the Monorail – with a purple stripe.
That color of Monorail was retired in 2009 after the pink Monorail backed into the purple Monorail, killing 21-year-old Disney cast member Austin Wuennenberg.

Disney Parks Buses to Feature Disney Infinity-Inspired Wraps

To celebrate the recent launch of Disney Infinity 2.0 several Walt Disney World Resort buses will be decorated with specially-designed wraps.
The wraps are similar to what was used to decorate the Monorail over the years.
The bus wraps are designed by the same Walt Disney Imagineering team that designed the Monorail wraps and will feature characters from Disney Infinity 2.0.
Guests will see the five Disney Infinity-wrapped buses around the Walt Disney World Resort.

‘Monsters University’ wrapped monorail debuts at Walt Disney World

It’s official! The “Monsterail” – the monorail wrapped to promote Disney/Pixar’s Monsters University – made its debut Wednesday on the Magic Kingdom Park and Resorts loop.
The monorail’s wrap features Mike Wazowski, James P. Sullivan, and other Monsters University students appearing in windows. Some of the students are holding banners or pennants for various Monsters University organizations such as the Oozma Kappa fraternity. The back of the monorail features the MU logo.
This is the second wrapped monorail at Walt Disney World – the Iron Man 3 monorail debuted last month.

National Transportation Safety Board Says 2009 Monorail Crash Was the Fault of Disney Employee

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has determined that the 2009 monorail crash that killed driver Austin Wuennenberg was the fault of a Walt Disney World employee.
According to a final report, the NTSB reported that the collision was caused by a shop panel operator’s failure to position a switch in the correct manner. The resulting crash caused $24 million in damages, and the NTSB says that “contributing to the crash was Walt Disney World Resort’s lack of standard operating procedures leading to an unsafe practice when reversing trains …

Walt Disney World to Add Twelfth Monorail Train

Walt Disney World will be running twelve monorail trains again within the next few weeks, as the company has announced the addition of a new train to its existing fleet.
Prior to July 2009, the company routinely ran 12 trains, but cut the rotation to 11 when monorail pilot Austin Wuennenburg was killed when two monorail trains collided in a late night accident July 5, 2009. 
The new train will begin testing in a few weeks, and will be designated the color peach to identify it on the elevated, electric railway once it becomes fully operational.  …

Walt Disney World to Cut Monorail Hours Indefinitely

Guests heading to Walt Disney World’s Epcot or Magic Kingdom Parks during evening Extra Magic Hours will now find themselves with one less transportation option, as Disney has announced new operating hours for their monorail system. While the monorails previously ran for approximately one and a half hours after park closing and through extended hours, the monorails will now only operate for one hour after the official park closing each night. They will no longer operate during Extra Magic Hours, Disney’s extended park hours exclusively for their resort guests.

New Updates Make Disneyland Hotel Better Than Ever

The historic Disneyland Hotel continues to wow guests with lots of new features and attractions.  Earlier this month, we told you about the opening of two new food and beverage fun spots, Tangaroa Terrace and Trader Sam’s – Enchanted Tiki Bar.  Yesterday, adding to the fun of the holiday weekend, Disneyland Hotel opened its brand new water play area as part of its continuing pool renovation.

Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed in Disney Monorail Pilot’s Death Dismissed

Two years ago, on July 5 2009, Walt Disney World monorail pilot Austin Wuennenberg was killed when two monorails crashed at the Transportation and Ticket Center. According to official documents from the National Transportation Safety Board, the other pilot stated he never saw Wuennenberg as he backed up the train he was piloting.
However, earlier last year Wuennenberg’s mother filed suit against Walt Disney World Parks and Resort, claiming that her son’s supervisor had left his post, thereby creating a “dangerous situation.” Now, though, the lawsuit has been dismissed. Lawyers for both …
