Walt Disney Studios Receive Eight Academy Award Nominations

The Academy Award nominations are out and the Walt Disney Studios earned a total of eight nominations.

While early Oscar favorites Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson didn’t get nominated for their roles at Walt Disney and P.L. Travers, their film Saving Mr. Banks did get nominated for Best Original Score.
Pixar’s Monsters University was absent from the list of Best Animated Feature Films, but Disney’s monstrous hit Frozen was nominated as was The Wind Rises which is being distributed in the United States by Disney.

The Walt Disney Studios, ABC Television Earn Nominations from The Producers Guild of America

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) recently announced nominees for the 2014 PGA Awards, and both ABC and The Walt Disney Studios received nominations.
Ten films were nominated for the Guild’s Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures including Saving Mr. Banks (producers Ian Collie, Alison Owen, and Philip Steuer).
The last six Best Picture Oscar winners had previously won the PGA’s Darryl F. Zanuck award – which means if Saving Mr. Banks wins it has a good chance of winning again on Oscar night.

The Walt Disney Studios Set another Company Record with 2013 Domestic Box Office Results

Despite a slight bump in the road thanks to a certain masked ranger, this year has been a rather great year for The Walt Disney Studios.
Earlier this month, the Studios set yet another company record when it reached an all-time high at the domestic box office breaking the previous record of $1.547 billion set in 2012.
The domestic box office record means the Studio was a triple threat this year, breaking records internationally, globally, and domestically.

Limited Time Magic Celebrates ‘Mary Poppins’ at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland

It’s a “Jolly Holiday” this week at the Disney Parks as Limited Time Magic celebrates the release of Saving Mr. Banks and the release of the 50th anniversary edition of Mary Poppins on Blu-ray.
For a limited time guests will be able to get a poster celebrating Saving Mr. Banks and Mary Poppins. The posters are available at Disney California Adventure Park and in the United Kingdom Pavilion in Epcot.

Walt Disney Studios Breaks $4 Billion at Global Box Office for the First Time in Studio History

For the first time in its history, The Walt Disney Studios broke the $4 billion mark at the global box office.
Earlier in November, the Studio had announced it surpassed the $3.791 billion mark that it set back in 2010. This year’s results have been driven by the success of Marvel’s Iron Man 3 which earned $1.21 billion making it the fifth highest grossing film ever.
Monsters University earned $744 million, making it Pixar’s third highest grossing film, and Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World is still going strong at the box office …

Disney’s ‘Saving Mr. Banks’ to Premiere at AFI Fest in November

There’s early award-season buzz about Disney’s Saving Mr. Banks and the movie is making its North American premiere at the AFI Fest on November 7 in Los Angeles.
The film which stars Tom Hanks as Walt Disney, tells the true story of how Disney struggled to bring Mary Poppins to the big screen and his testy relationship with author P. L. Travers who didn’t want an adaptation of her book made into a movie. Travers is played by Emma Thompson.

Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger Set to Open D23 Expo, Followed by Animation Presentation by John Lasseter

Next month’s D23 Expo will open with a welcome from Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger, and following the grand opening is the first of two arena presentations that are sure to feature some surprises for Disney fans.
