Richard M. Sherman and Alan Menken Set to Perform Together at the D23: Expo

Disney Legends Richard M. Sherman and Alan Menken – two of the world’s most celebrated songwriters and composers – will take the stage at this year’s D23 Expo 2013 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Richard M. Sherman and Alan Menken: The Disney Songbook.
Sherman and Menken have composed music and songs for more than three dozen Disney feature films and more than two dozen Disney Park attractions, in addition to half a dozen Disney musicals on Broadway.

Disney Scraps Plans for ‘The Little Mermaid’ in 3D

Despite the impressive box office performance of Disney’s The Lion King in 3D, Disney’s follow up re-releases (Beauty and the Beast, Finding Nemo and Monsters, Inc.) in 3D turned out to be disappointing for the studio.
Due to the weak performances of their subsequent 3D releases, Disney has opted to scrap plans for the re-release of The Little Mermaid in 3D. Disney had already begun work on the re-release in November, but sources are reporting that the media giant has decided not to go forward with the production.

Mickey’s Music Festival Coming to State Farm Arena

This holiday season, families will be able to enjoy a modern mix of classic Disney tunes in Disney Live! Mickey’s Music Festival.
The festival will be held at the State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, TX on December 27 and feature characters from Aladdin, The Little Mermaid and Toy Story singing and dancing to popular songs from each film. However, the songs have been modernized to blend hip hop, reggae, rock, pop and country influences to update the songs to resonate with a new audience.

Art of Animation Resort’s ‘Little Mermaid’ Wing Opens September 15

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort will be welcoming the final phase of resort construction when “The Little Mermaid” wing opens September 15, 2012.

In the courtyard that overlooks the wing and the Flippin’ Fins pool, a gigantic statue of Ariel – surrounded by Flounder and friends – provides unique photo opportunities and is truly the highlight of the new wing.

Also overlooking “The Little Mermaid” courtyard stands a larger-than-life statue of Ursula, Ariel’s nemesis in the popular Disney film.

Walt Disney Records to Release Spanish Language Versions of Popular Titles

In order to better serve their Hispanic audience, Walt Disney Records will be releasing five Spanish language albums of some of their popular titles, including the digital soundtracks to Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King. Additionally, the company will be releasing two Song & Story titles and a collection of Disney Princess songs.

Earlier this week, we told you about Storybook Circus “soft-opening” in Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland, and today we have several photos to share with you of the new attractions that are now available to guests.

Disney VoluntEARS Create ‘The Little Mermaid’ Sculpture for CANstruction

For the 4th annual CANstruction Orange County competition, Disney VoluntEARS created a sculpture of Flounder and Sebastian from Disney’s The Little Mermaid. CANstruction holds competitions every year for teams to compete and build sculptures entirely out of canned goods, whereby the cans are then donated to local charities.
Almost 5,400 cans of food were used to create the sculpture, including juice pouches, corn and black beans – that translates to 4,200 pounds of food! CANstruction, a charity devoted to ending world hunger, are donating all of the cans used in the …
