The Walt Disney Studios Changes Release Date for ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’

We’re going to have to wait a little bit longer to see the next Star Wars movie.
The Walt Disney Studios has announced that the release date for Star Wars: Episode VIII has been pushed back to December 15, 2017. The film was slated for a May 26, 2017 release.
Currently, Episode VIII is in pre-production and filming is set to begin next month in London. Previous reports said filming was slated to begin this month. The film was written by and will be directed by Rian Johnson. JJ Abrams will serve …

We did it! We made it through the first week of the New Year! Disney news was starting to pick up this week so let’s dive right in and see what happened.

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Earns $529 Million Globally During Opening Weekend

The Force was awake and breaking box office records last weekend.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens earned an all-time industry high of $248 million at the domestic box office and $281 million internationally for an all-time global record box office debut of $529 million.
Thanks to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Disney now holds four of the five top film debuts of all time.

D23 Gold Members Can Take a Behind-the-Scenes Tour of Walt Disney’s Office

D23: The Official Disney Fan Club is giving its gold members a chance to be some of the first to tour the recently refurbished office of Walt Disney in Burbank, CA.
This tour will be the first D23 tour group to visit Walt’s newly restored office at The Walt Disney Studios lot. The event also includes a special presentation by the Disney Photo Library team and a three-course meal at the Tam O’Shanter.

Walt Disney’s Office Restored as Permanent Exhibit Space on the Walt Disney Studios’ Lot

Walt Disney’s office suite at the Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank has been restored as a permanent exhibit space.
The restoration recreates Walt’s formal and working offices and includes original furniture, collections of his miniatures, awards, and even his piano. The office – 3H – was restored by the Walt Disney Archives staff and will be used as an “immersive exhibit experience” for employees and studio guests.

D23: The Official Disney Fan Club Announces Slate of Events for 2016

D23 – the Official Disney Fan Club – has recently announced its slate of special events for 2016 and several are planned for the Walt Disney World Resort.
Each month next year features special D23 events, starting with a D23 Behind-the-Scenes Experience on January 29 in Burbank. D23 members will have the chance to hear from special guests and visit new Disney locations.
Next year D23 will offer special film screenings including Alice in Wonderland, Finding Nemo, and Bedknobs and Broomsticks. The first screening is February 20 in California (Alice in Wonderland). …

The Walt Disney Studios Reaches $4 Billion Mark at Global Box Office

The Walt Disney Studios reached the $4 billion mark at the global box office.
This year’s box office record passes the previous record set the by the Studios last year by six weeks. This year the Studios earned $1.433 billion domestically and $2.575 billion internationally.
The $4 billion in box office earnings was driven by Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out, Disney’s live-action Cinderella, and Marvel’s Ant-Man.

D23 Announces Expanded ‘Hall D23’ for 2015 D23 Expo

The 2015 D23 Expo takes place August 14-16 and a new 7,500-seat venue, Hall D23, has just been announced.
The new venue will host several of the largest events and presentations at the Expo including the Disney Legends Awards Ceremony and The Walt Disney Studios announcements.
The Disney Legends Awards Ceremony is scheduled for Friday, August 14 and will be hosted by Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger. The ceremony honors those who have made significant contributions to the Disney legacy.

‘Create Tomorrowland’ Nationwide Challenge Announced by The Walt Disney Studios

The Walt Disney Studios has partnered with Disney Citizenship and XPRIZE to announce the nationwide Disney’s Create Tomorrowland challenge for kids ages 8 to 17.
The Create Tomorrowland challenge launches April 22 and invites kids to imagine themselves in the future and report back to the present using video, imagery, or stories about a new invention or innovation they encountered in the future.
Kids need to report on the invention or innovation, how it works, and the impact that it has on the future.

Disney Accelerator Program Hosts Inaugural Demo Day at The Walt Disney Studios

The Disney Accelerator Program ended with the inaugural Demo Day at The Walt Disney Studios Lot.
The Demo Day gave the 10 participating companies a chance to present their businesses to investors and entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and Disney executives.
The Disney Accelerator Program was an intensive 15-week program where the companies had access to 60 Disney executives, 70 entrepreneurs and investors, and Disney resources. The participating companies also received up to $120,000 in investment capital.
