Disney CEO’s Pay Increases by Thirty-five Percent

2010 was a good year to be Bob Iger.
The Walt Disney Company Chief Executive saw an increase in pay in 2010 of 35%, jumping to $16.3 million from $12 million the year before, bringing his total compensation to $28 million.  The increase by the board of directors’ compensation committee was in recognition of Iger’s “exceptional performance” during a year otherwise marked by a slow economy.
The committee pointed specifically to the success of three of Disney’s cable channels, Disney Channel, ESPN, and ABC Family, as they delivered record ratings.  Also noted …

“Toy Story 3” leads the pack with five nominations in some of the most significant categories.  In addition to being nominated in the Best Picture Category – one of ten, as the Academy once again broadens the number of nominees for the second consecutive year – the critically acclaimed and commercially successful film also …

As the award season marches on, Toy Story 3 continues to garner critical acclaim – and awards.
Earlier today, nominees were announced for the 2011 Orange British Academy Film Awards or the BAFTAs, and Toy Story 3 picked up three nominations:  animated film; adapted screenplay; and special visual effects.
The announcement of the BAFTA nominations follows Toy Story 3’s win for Best Animated Feature at the HFPA’s Golden Globes earlier this week.  We’re still anticipating how TS3 will fare with Oscar nominations, to be announced on January 25.

‘Toy Story 3’ Wins Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature

Disney-Pixar’s “Toy Story 3” represented the only bright spot for Disney films at last night’s 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards.  As predicted, the film won the category of Best Animated Feature Film, beating out even its Disney cousin, “Tangled,” for the prize.
The win represented the only victory for Disney films during the 2011 Golden Globes, which are awarded by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.  Three films – Tim Burton’s live-action “Alice in Wonderland,” “Toy Story 3,” and “Tangled” – had been nominated for a total of six awards.
Fans of ABC …

Disney Receives Golden Globe Nominations for Films, TV Series

Disney and ABC Studios received a total of nine Golden Globe nominations, which were announced on Tuesday morning.
Three Disney films were honored with a total of six nominations between them.  “Alice in Wonderland,” Tim Burton’s live action fantasy which takes up where the animated version left off, garnered three nods:  Best Motion Picture in a Comedy or Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Actor – Comedy or Musical for Johnny Depp, who was also nominated for his role in “The Tourist.”  Going head to head in the Best Animated Feature …

Disneyland Union Protests ‘Toy Story 3’ Nomination Campaign

In an attempt to raise awareness of their position, a union that represents Disneyland hotel workers has launched a campaign against Disney’s efforts to win an Oscar Nomination for “Toy Story 3.”
“Disney has its eye on trying to win Best Picture. And we just think, although it’s a good movie, that the academy shouldn’t reward Disney for its hypocrisy,” said Leigh Shelton, a spokesperson for Unite Here Local 11.
A Disney official calls the campaign a publicity stunt meant to distract union members.  “We have offered a fair and comprehensive contract,” …

‘Toy Story 3’ Garners One Golden Globe Nomination

The nominations for the 2011 Golden Globe Awards were announced earlier today.  “Toy Story 3” has been nominated for one award – Best Animated Feature Film.
While it certainly isn’t surprising that the film has been nominated, it is baffling that it only picked up one nod.  Noticeably absent:  a mention for the film in the category of Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical.  Both Toy Story and Toy Story 2 were previously nominated for the top award, and Toy Story 2 won it in 1999.
The Golden Globes, awarded by the …

New Topiaries in Store for Epcot’s 18th Annual Flower and Garden Festival

We may all be shivering in our boots right now as the dark, chilly days of winter are hard upon us.  But spring will be here before we know it, and with it, the return of sunshine, longer days, and the Epcot Flower & Garden Festival.
During the special event, Epcot becomes a gardener’s delight of seasonal blooms, gardening seminars and demonstrations – and even “flower power” music.  But one of the most popular features are the more than 100 topiaries that grace the grounds during the festival.
Years past have brought us …

‘Toy Story 3’ Tops TIME’s Best Movies List

“Toy Story 3” has been critically acclaimed, and audiences have overwhelmingly embraced the sequel this year, making it a commercial success as well.  And now, we can add TIME magazine to the list of fans.
In it’s Top 10 of Everything feature, TIME has named “Toy Story 3” as the Number one movie of 2010.  The article recognizes director Lee Unkrich and writer Michael Arndt as leaders in Hollywood circles, who have created a “powerful fable” that could teach movie writers and makers a thing or two about storytelling.
In response to the …
