Disney Legend and Imagineer Marty Sklar Dies at Age 83

Legendary Disney Imagineer Marty Sklar died Thursday, July 27, at age 83.
Sklar has a 54-year career with the Walt Disney Company, working closely with Walt Disney himself early in his career. He was named a Disney Legend in 2001 and will be remembered for his contributions to the Disney theme parks around the world.
Born on February 6, 1934, Marty Sklar was a student at UCLA when he was recruited to create The Disneyland News for Disneyland.

Disney Artist Showcase Planned for November and December at Downtown Disney

This year’s Festival of the Masters might have been cancelled due to the ongoing construction at Downtown Disney, but fans can still get their fill of artists this month and next.
On select weekends in November and December, the Walt Disney World Resort is hosting a Disney Artist Showcase at the Art of Disney in Downtown Disney. Artists from Walt Disney Design Group, Yellow Shoes Creative Group, and Walt Disney Imagineering will be on hand at the events.

D23: The Official Disney Fan Club Announces Special Events for 2014

The Official Disney Fan Club – D23 – has announced a slate of events for 2014 that is sure to please any Disney fan.
Perhaps one of the biggest events for this year is Destination D: Attraction Rewind Presented by H2O Plus. This event is scheduled for July 26-27 at the Walt Disney World Resort and will bring together Disney archivists, Imagineers, and Legends to celebrate favorite Disney attractions of yesteryear.

Disney Legend Tony Baxter to be Honored with Window on Main Street USA

Last weekend, longtime Imagineer Tony Baxter was declared an official Disney Legend at the D23 Expo. However, that was not the only honor in store for the truly legendary Imagineer, as it was also revealed that weekend that Baxter would be receiving his own window on Disneyland’s Main Street, U.S.A.

The Disney Gallery at Disneyland Park to Debut Fantasyland-Inspired Artwork

Next month, guests can immerse themselves in the wonders of Fantasyland with new artwork created by Walt Disney Imagineers and Disney-inspired artists.
The Disney Gallery on Main Street, U.S.A. at Disneyland Park will feature a variety of Fantasyland-inspired art from Imagineers Brian Crosby, Jim Crouch and Jeremy Fulton. Artwork will also be available from artists Steve Adams, Jody Daily, Jeff Granito, Katie Kelly, Maggie Parr, Jimmy Pickering, George Scribner, Darren Wilson and Yakovetic.

Celebrate Epcot’s 30th Anniversary with Special Events and Merchandise

Disney’s Epcot will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year on October 1. A schedule of special events was released this week, including two history presentations featuring Disney legend Marty Sklar. Throughout the day on October 1, guests can attend these events in the World Showplace courtesy of D23: The Official Disney Fan Club. These presentations are included in park admission and are limited in seating.

Concept Art Revealed for Disneyland’s Fantasy Faire

Disneyland’s current Princess Fantasy Faire will be closing August 12, but now Walt Disney Imagineers have released concept art for the new Royal Hall at Fantasy Faire where you’ll be able to meet your favorite Disney princesses in their new home.

Complete Look at Prince Eric’s Castle at Magic Kingdom Park

We’ve shown you a few sneak peeks of Prince Eric’s Castle in the New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom, but now you can see the complete look at this new abode, which will house Under the Sea – Journey of The Little Mermaid attraction.
As with Beast’s Castle, Walt Disney Imagineers used a technique called forced perspective to “trick” the eye into thinking objects are larger than they actually are. In this way, Prince Eric’s abode seems to tower above you when the structure really isn’t as large as you think.

Disney Fantasy Introduces ‘Goofy’s Sports Simulator’

The new Disney Fantasy showcases the latest in cutting-edge technology, including a video game experience that you won’t find anywhere else.
Dubbed Goofy’s Sports Simulator, players can use real sports objects like footballs, basketballs, baseballs and hockey pucks and interact with Goofy and other famous Disney characters.
