Disney Changes Movie Release Dates; Shifts Up “Monsters” But Drops “Beauty” Entirely

Walt Disney Studios announced a few release schedule changes today that affect a number of their upcoming films. The first schedule change comes for “Monsters, Inc 2,” the sequel to the popular Pixar film. Originally reported to open in theaters on November 16, 2012, the film’s release will now be pushed up two weeks, opening instead on November 2 of the same year. This is presumably so the film won’t have to compete with Hollywood’s most popular vampires when “Twilight: Breaking Dawn (Part 2),” the final installment of the popular …

“Tron: Legacy” Prequel Will Come in Form of a Comic Book

For Disney’s first release under it’s ownership of Marvel, Disney will be releasing something familiar to Marvel fans… a comic book. “Tron: The Betrayal” will serve as a two-issue prequel to the upcoming “Tron: Legacy” film. FlickDirect.com is reporting that the comic will come out after the December release of the “Tron” Legacy” movie, Kevin Flynn will be reunited with Tron while also maintaining both “Encom” and “the Grid.”

Disney Releases Free “Tron” Video Game for iPhone & iPod Touch Users

In a frenzy of promotional efforts for the highly anticipated “Tron: Legecy” sci-fi film Disney has released it’s latest attention-grabbing promo; a TRON app. Considered a moderized remake of the classic “Tron Tanks” video game; content also includes video trailers of the upcoming feature. Super-fans who plan on attending Comic Con 2010 in San Diego will also have the opportunity to download surprise content when they visit the Tron booth.

Release Date Set for New Muppet Movie

Movieweb.com is reporting that Walt Disney Pictures has set a release date for the highly-anticipated new Muppet movie; December 25, 2011. A Christmas gift for fans, the new film will be directed by James Bobin, following a script written by “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” director Nicholas Stoller and writer Jason Segel. Jason Segal has also been cast to star in the film.
Information about production dates and details has yet to be revealed.

Los Angeles: Hollywood’s El Capitan Theater to Run World’s First “Toy Story” Marathon

Beginning at 3pm on Thursday, June 17th the famous El Capitan Theater in Hollywood will run the world’s first-ever “Toy Story” marathon on the big screen. After guests enjoy the original “Toy Story” film, as well as “Toy Story 2,” the historical theater will then be showing an advanced screening of the much anticipated “Toy Story 3″ in Disney Digital 3D.

Disney’s “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” Opens With Dissapointing Numbers

With all of the hype and media efforts Disney pushed for “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” stockholders and movie buffs were expecting an impressive opening weekend, making big bucks for the company. Unfortunately, according to early estimates, Jerry Bruckheimer’s ‘Prince’ turned out to be a frog. Disney’s Box Office Hit “Alice in Wonderland” Reaches $1 Billion Benchmark

Tim Burton’s successful ‘Alice’ remake has brought Disney into a financial wonderland after it was announced today that the popular film has made over one billion dollars in box office receipts since the film’s debut. “Alice in Wonderland” now joins heavy-hitters “Titanic” and “Avatar” as the top three “non-sequel” films to reach a billion dollar benchmark, and also touts the title of biggest opening for a 3-D movie.

Disney Announces Monsters Inc. 2 & the Return of the Muppets

During a recent press briefing, studios chairman Rich Ross announced that Disney’s Pixar division is currently producing “Monster’s Inc. 2,” the sequel to a highly popular original which grossed $525 million worldwide after its release in November 2001.
