‘Zootopia’ Wins Academy Award for Best Animated Feature

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ hit film Zootopia won the Academy Award for best Animated Feature at the 89th Oscars.
The film was nominated in the category alongside Moana.
Other nominations for Disney included best Original Song, ‘How Far I’ll Go,’ from Moana, best Short Film (animated) for Piper, and three visual effects nominations for Doctor Strange, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and The Jungle Book.
Piper won the Oscar for best Short Film (animated) and The Jungle Book won for best Visual Effects.
ESPN won its first Oscar in the Documentary Feature category …

Disney Recognized in 11 Categories at Annie Awards, Wins 12 Awards

It was a big night for Disney at the annual Annie Awards this past weekend.
Disney animated films were recognized in 11 categories at the annual awards that “recognize animation’s biggest and brightest stars,” winning 12 awards.
Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Zootopia won six awards including Best Animated Feature.
Pixar Animation Studios’ Piper won Best Animated Short Subject, and Moana was honored for animated effects and voice acting.
Zootopia also won for character design, directing, storyboarding, voice acting (Jason Bateman), and writing in an animated feature.

The Walt Disney Studios Reaches $7 Billion Global Box Office

The Walt Disney Studios reached the $7 billion mark at the global box office today, thanks in part to the record opening weekend of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
The $7 billion threshold is a new industry record.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story made $290 million in its global debut last weekend. The Studios earned $2.7 billion domestically and nearly $4.3 billion internationally, which is a record for Disney.

‘Finding Dory’ Crosses $1 Billion Mark at Global Box Office

Pixar’s Finding Dory has crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office, making it the fifth biggest animated film of all time globally.
The film is also Pixar’s second billion dollar release along with Toy Story 3.
Finding Dory debuted in the US on June 17 and earned $135 million in its debut – which is the biggest debut ever for for an animated film.
The movie is also the No. 1 domestic film of 2016 and the seventh-highest grossing film of all time.

‘Zootopia’ Reaches $900 million Mark at Global Box Office

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Zootopia is a bona fide global box office hit.
The animated film recently crossed the $900 million mark at the global box office making it the No. 1 industry release so far of 2016 and the No. 8 top-grossing animated film of all time.
With this new box office benchmark the film is also the second-biggest Walt Disney Animation Studios’ release of all time after Frozen (of course) and the third biggest overall (following Frozen and The Lion King).

New D-Tech On Demand Phone Cases Includes ‘Zootopia’ and Disney Trash Cans

If you’re looking to spruce up your phone case this spring you’ll want to stop by the D-Tech on Demand locations at the Disney Parks.
Guests visiting D-Tech on Demand at the Star Wars Launch Bay in Disney’s Hollywood Studios can create a Star Wars-themed case. One option includes writing your name in Aurebesh, one of the alphabets from Star Wars.
Other new case designs feature characters from Zootopia including Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde, and Flash.

The Week in Disney News: Rivers of Light, New Disney Cruise Line Ships, and More

What a week it’s been! There was so much exciting Disney news it was hard to keep up – but we did our best! Let’s dive right in!
After much speculation and anticipation, it was announced that Rivers of Light – the new nighttime show at Disney’s Animal Kingdom – will officially open on Earth Day, April 22!
Disney Cruise Line announced that two new ships will be joining the fleet in 2021 and 2023! There are no names announced yet for the new ships but we’ll keep you posted!

‘Zootopia’ Characters Coming to Disney Parks

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Zootopia opens this week in theaters and guests at the Disney Parks will soon have a chance to meet the stars of the film.
Nick Wilde (the fox) and Judy Hopps (the rabbit) are coming to Disney California Adventure and the Magic Kingdom to celebrate the release of the film.
The characters will be part of the ‘Move It! Shake It! Dance & Play It Street Party’ at the Magic Kingdom and they’ll be meeting fans on Hollywood Boulevard at Disney California Adventure.

New ‘Zootopia’ Merchandise Debuts at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

The newest film from Walt Disney Animation Studios – Zootopia – opens in theaters this weekend and a new slate of merchandise inspired by the film has arrived at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The new merchandise includes a Deluxe Play Set featuring 10 characters from the film, a Carrot Recorder pen modeled after Officer Judy Hopps’ pen, and two plush animals – Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde.
A new limited-release Vinylmation mystery series based on the film was designed by Ricardo De Los Angeles and features seven known figures and one mystery chaser.

New ‘Zootopia’ Exhibit Coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Guests visiting Rafiki’s Planet Watch at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will soon be able to check out a new exhibit inspired by Disney’s Zootopia.
When making the film Zootopia, the filmmakers worked with animal care professionals from Disney’s Animal Kingdom to learn about animal behaviors, personalities, and movements. The artists working on the film incorporated this information into the animation.
The Zootopia exhibit will show guests how the film was made and what was learned at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
