‘The Lion King’ Stage Musical Has Earned More Than $6 Billion Worldwide
This milestone makes the musical the most successful stage production in history, taking that title from The Phantom of the Opera which has earned $6 billion worldwide.
More than 75 million people have seen the stage production of The Lion King during one of its 22 productions around the world. Some of the current locations where the show can be seen include London, Tokyo, Hamburg, Las Vegas, and of course New York City.
In 2013 the show became the first Broadway production in history to reach the $1 billion mark and it is still the No. 1 box office draw on Broadway. The show has been translated around the world into German, Korean, French, Dutch, and Portuguese.
The first production of the show in Mandarin will be presented at the Shanghai Disney Resort.
