The Walt Disney Studios Reaches $4 Billion Mark at Global Box Office

antmanThe Walt Disney Studios reached the $4 billion mark at the global box office.

This year’s box office record passes the previous record set the by the Studios last year by six weeks. This year the Studios earned $1.433 billion domestically and $2.575 billion internationally.

The $4 billion in box office earnings was driven by Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out, Disney’s live-action Cinderella, and Marvel’s Ant-Man.

The animation hit Inside Out has earned $800 million at the global box office making it the third highest grossing Pixar film of all time.

The Walt Disney Studios also revealed several new and updated release dates for several films.

Ant-Man and the Wasp – a sequel to Ant-Man – is set for a July 6, 2018 release, Black Panther opens February 16, 2018, and Captain Marvel will open March 8, 2019.

Upcoming Pixar films include Cars 3 on June 16, 2017, Coco on November 22, 2017, and The Incredibles 2 on June 21, 2019. Toy Story 4 will arrive in theaters on June 15, 2018.

Several live-action films are also on the slate including The Jungle Book in April of 2016, Alice Through the Looking Glass in May 2016, and Pete’s Dragon in August 2016.

Gigantic – featuring music from Academy Award winning songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez – will arrive in theaters on March 9, 2018.
