The Week in Disney News: Summer of Heroes, D23 Fanniversary, and More

summer of heroesHappy Star Wars Half Marathon – The Dark Side Sunday! If you’re running today … good luck! And if you’re not, it’s time to check out the latest in Disney news.

D23 announced its 2017 ‘Fanniversary’ event. The celebration is planned for Sunday, October 1 (the actual anniversary of Epcot) and it kicks off a month-long celebration for Epcot’s 35th anniversary.

The Summer of Heroes kicks off May 27 at  Disney California Adventure. This special summertime event includes the grand opening of Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT, aGuardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance Off!  with Star Lord, Gamora, and more.

The gondola transportation system looks like it’s a reality for Walt Disney World. There’s no official word yet about the project but according to documents filed by the Reedy Creek Improvement District, there will be six stations with three gondola lines that link Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Epcot, Caribbean Beach Resort, and the area between Pop Century and Art of Animation.

A new pirate-themed exhibit is planned for this year’s D23 Expo featuring items from Pirates of the Caribbean and more.

The Frozen Summer Games are returning to Disney’s Blizzard Beach on May 26!

And finally, more details have been announced for Star Wars Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
