This Week in Disney News: ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Breaks Box Office Records, New Film Festival at Epcot, and More

star wars force awakesWe hope you had a very Merry Christmas! It was a rather slow week in Disney news, but there were a few standout items. So without further ado, let’s just right in!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opened a little more than a week ago and started shattering box office records right from the start! Just in its opening weekend, The Force Awakens earned an all-time industry high of $248 million at the domestic box office and $281 million internationally for an all-time global record box office debut of $529 million.

Speaking of Star Wars, there is a new set of Star Wars-themed Disney Gift Cards! Guests will find them at the Disney Parks and online.

Guests at Epcot can check out the all-new Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival at the Magic Eye Theater. The films in the festival are: Get a Horse, For The Birds, and La Luna.

Chocolate fans will want to stop by The Ganachery, the all-new chocolate shop located at Disney Springs. And there’s a new bar and snack shop at Disney’s Animal Kingdom – Thirsty River Bar and Trek Snacks is located near Expedition Everest.
