Verizon Launches Pirate Discovery App with Exclusive Content from Disney’s ‘Pirates’

Verizon Wireless has recently launched the Pirate Discovery App,  which is the official mobile application for Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

The app, which will be available on select Verizon Wireless smartphones and tablets, features exclusive content from the film, including character biographies, stills, and artwork. Additionally, customers who download the app will be able to find local show times and purchase tickets to see the film when it debuts in theaters May 20, and even post Facebook and Twitter posts directly from the app.

Customers who use the app will also be able to access a live stream from the Pirates of the Caribbean:  On Stranger Tides world premiere of the film from Disneyland on May 7. Beginning at 8:45 p.m. PST, users can access a sneak peek of the event! Finally, from May 17 to June 14, access Disney’s mobile game for Android phones: Pirates of the Caribbean: Master of the Seas. With this game, fans can create their own virtual pirates, customize their ships and participate in epic quests and battles.

If that wasn’t enough, the Pirate Discovery App will allow users to unlock exclusive film-related content via the built-in rewards program.

Says Suzy Deering, executive director of media and sponsorships at Verizon Wireless, “The Pirate Discovery App connects fans to the movie franchise in new ways and lets them go deep into Captain Jack Sparrow’s world.”

Don Gross, vice president, global promotions, Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Marketing, also said that “we wanted to find ways to connect with the franchise’s incredibly dedicated fan base, as well as bring the world of Pirates to new platforms.”

To download the app, which is free for Verizon Wireless customers with select 3G and 4G Android mobile devices, text “AHOY” to 52011 or access it via the Android Market. More information, as well as a list of devices that support the new app, can be found at climbaboard.com.
