Walt Disney World Crowns 2010 Cast Member Canoe Racing Champs

Dating back to a Disneyland tradition from 1963, every morning strong and dedicated Disney Cast Members arrive pre-dawn at the Magic Kingdom for one month to participate in Walt Disney World’s “Canoe Races of the World (C.R.O.W.).” The friendly competition first made it’s way over to Walt Disney World in 1973 showcasing the physical strength & team-building abilities of it’s cast member participants. This year there were 79 teams to participate in the beloved activity.

A co-ed team dubbed “Shut Up and Let Me Row… HEY!” from Disney’s Animal Kingdom were crowned the 2010 champions; this is their first title since competing in the races. They defeated five other finalist teams during a pre-dawn grand championship round in the Rivers of America.

“We were thrilled that we won our division, and all of us were in shock when they announced us as the C.R.O.W. Grand Champions,” said team captain Kari Harlow. She credits strong communication and unity among the team members to keeping them in sync on the river, which ultimately led to their victory. A sense of humor helped too.

“Our team loves to laugh, so we stayed positive throughout the competition, even in stressful situations. C.R.O.W. is a stellar event and we loved being a part of it,” said Harlow. (-WDW Public Affairs)
