Walt Disney’s “Magic Kingdom” Coming to a Big Screen Near You?

Development is in the works for a new kind of Disney movie to be featured on the big screen. Instead of adapting popular Disney Park attractions into movies – like “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “The Haunted Mansion” – it looks like this time creative execs may be setting their sights on adapting a whole park! Similar to the popular Ridley Pearson’s “Kingdom Keepers” book series for kids “Magic Kingdom” the movie may feature a fictional family adventure through the park, showcasing some classic Disney characters like Mickey Mouse.

Ronald Moore, who’s behind the “Battlestar Galactica” TV series, had already prepared a script for the possible film in a pitch effort to the Company. Disney, and the producers, want to develop the concept further and a writer has not yet been hired. Considering some highly anticipated films like “TRON: Legacy” & “Tangled” are set to debut soon “Magic Kingdom” the movie doesn’t look like a top priority for Disney right now. Although, the projects remains on the radar of Disney executive considering previous similar movie franchises have been so successful.

“Variety” online comments:

“Idea of a park-to-pic adaptation is nothing to scoff at, considering the “Pirates” franchise has earned $2.7 billion worldwide since the first set sail in 2003.”
