Woman Sues Disney Over Watercraft Crash with Ferry

Court records show that a British woman injured when the small watercraft she was riding in collided with a ferry has filed a lawsuit against Disney.

Barbara Wormald of Skipton, England, was riding in a Sea Raycer, a two-seated watercraft widely available for rent across Walt Disney World property, last year, when the boat collided with a ferry at Walt Disney World.  According to the initial report, Wormald suffered injuries from the crash, including a collapsed lung, as well as fractured ribs and back pain.  Wormald’s husband, Michael, was piloting the boat at the time.

The lawsuit alleges that Disney was negligent in renting the watercraft to Mr. Wormald, stating that he had no experience piloting watercraft, was given no instruction, and should therefore not have been permitted to operate the Sea Raycer.

A Disney spokeperson described the suit as being “without merit.”  The resort will “respond through the court, as appropriate,” the spokesperson went on to say.
