‘Brave’ Earns 2013 BAFTA Award

While the Oscars are still a few weeks away here in the United States, the United Kingdom celebrated this year’s achievements in film last night at the annual BAFTA Awards. In addition to such other esteemed films as Argo and Skyfall, Disney/Pixar’s recent film Brave took home one of the top honors of the night.

Presented each year in London by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, the BAFTA Awards celebrate the films made over the past year, recognizing both British and foreign-produced films. Brave took home the BAFTA Award for Best Animated Film in 2013; the film was nominated alongside Paranorman and Disney’s Frankenweenie.

Accepting the award for Brave was both Brenda Chapman and Mark Andrews, the film’s original and second director, respectively. The award feels appropriate for the United Kingdom-based ceremony, as Brave is largely defined by its setting in the Scottish highlands.
