Captain EO Returns to Epcot

July 2 marked the day that Captain EO was schedule to return to Epcot. The show has been absent from the park since it closed in 1994, but has returned in honor of the passing of its star Michael Jackson.

While the attraction has already been back in place at Disneyland for some time, it has taken a while to return to Disney World. It was replaced by Honey I Shrunk the Audience in 1994. It has not been stated how long Disney plans to keep the 17 minute film running. From BizJornals.com:

“We take shows out a lot and look for new, innovative things to bring to our guests,” said Dan Cockerell, vice president of Epcot, who said guests and fans of the show had been clamoring for its return.

The film has some serious star power and represents a major investment for Disney. Produced by George Lucas, directed by Francis Ford Coppola and co-starring Angelica Huston, Disney is likely pleased to get some more value out of their investment. Many fans had been clamoring for its return, so be sure to catch it while it lasts.
