Construction to Begin on Star Wars Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland in 2016

star wars landEver since Star Wars Land at both Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland was announced at last month’s D23 Expo fans have been wondering when construction would begin.

They can wonder no more.

The Walt Disney Company’s Chief Operating Officer Tom Staggs told investors that groundbreaking at both theme parks will begin in 2016.

The 14-acre Star Wars Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is not the only addition coming to the theme park. Fans will also be able to visit an 11-acre Toy Story Land. No start date has been announced for that construction project.

Staggs called Star Wars Land the “most immersive land” Disney has ever built, noting that they want guests to feel as though they’ve “stepped into the world of Star Wars.”

Constructions for the lands will likely take several years – Pandora: The World of Avatar is still under construction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and won’t be open until early 2017.

No opening date has been announced for Star Wars Land or Toy Story Land, but Disney has announced that due to the construction of both lands at the Studios this will be the last year for the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights.
