The Official Disney Fan Club – D23 – has announced a slate of events for 2014 that is sure to please any Disney fan.
Perhaps one of the biggest events for this year is Destination D: Attraction Rewind Presented by H2O Plus. This event is scheduled for July 26-27 at the Walt Disney World Resort and will bring together Disney archivists, Imagineers, and Legends to celebrate favorite Disney attractions of yesteryear.
Some of the attractions in the ‘rewind’ including If You Had Wings, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and Adventure Thru Inner Space. Fans will have a chance to see concept art and images, vintage video, and more. Several of the presentations at the event will be dedicated to the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair where attractions including it’s a small world and Carousel of Progress were launched.
In addition to Destination D, D23 is planning other special events during the next 12 months, including a special Lunch with a Legend event at the end of January. At this event a limited number of D23 members will have a chance to dine with Marty Sklar on The Walt Disney Studios Lot.
D23 is also hitting the road this year for the D23 Disney Fanniversary Celebrations. These celebrations are hosted by Disney archivists and the D23 Team and they are meant to commemorate Disney milestones and landmark anniversaries throughout the year. Events will be held in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Orlando, New York City, Seattle, and other cities this fall.
The Fanniversary events will revisit theme park attractions, TV series, films, and more than 90 years of Disney history. Some of the anniversaries being celebrated during the Fanniversary events are Donald Duck, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Haunted Mansion, The Little Mermaid, and more.
There’s another big anniversary this summer and D23 is going to celebrate in a big way. August 24, 2014 marks the 50th anniversary of the premiere of Mary Poppins, and D23 will celebrate the day with a special screening event.
Other D23 events this year include Disney Store Member Mixers at reimagined stores in Florida, Kansas, New Jersey, California, and Nevada; special D23 member days at The Walt Disney Imagineering employee store Mickey’s of Glendale; movie screenings on the Disney Studio Lot; D23 Day at The Walt Disney Studios and Archives; and more.
