Disney Announces Storytelling Event at D23 Expo, Will Include Special Announcement

More exciting news is still coming out about the upcoming D23 Expo, which will take place at the Anaheim Convention Center from August 19-21, 2011. Disney has recently announced that there will be a special “storytelling event” on Friday, August 19 featuring authors Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, as well as Jake and the Neverland Pirates star David Arquette. As part of the event, there will be a special announcement, announcing something that will “open a new chapter” in Disney’s strong level of commitment to corporate citizenship.

At the storytelling event, guests will be able to hear from Pearson and Barry, the two authors responsible for the bestselling Peter and the Starcatchers series, a prequel trilogy that explores and re-imagines the origins of the classic Peter Pan story. The event will also feature a special reading event led by David Arquette, star of the Disney Junior show Jake and the Neverland Pirates, as well as the big announcement. Guests at the event will also receive a free book.

By nurturing young readers we help support creativity and imagination, an important part of our citizenship mission at Disney,” Leslie Goodman, senior vice president, Disney Corporate Citizenship, says. “We welcome the opportunity to collaborate with Disney Publishing Worldwide to bring this special event to the D23 Expo while at the same time encouraging visitors to take part in our daily pavilion activities that show how we can all make a lasting, positive change in the world.”

The D23 Expo will also feature a special Disney Corporate Citizenship pavilion, where guests can participate in Disney’s “Friends for Change Initiative” through special projects and activities. The pavilion will feature a different community service project each day, which guests can participate in as honorary “Disney VoluntEARS.” These projects might include planting seedlings for the environment, putting together care packages for military families, and assembling child comfort kits for children in need. Visitors to the pavilion can also participate in a special scavenger hunt that will lead them through the Expo and boost their knowledge of the environment. Participants in the scavenger hunt can become “honorary” D23 Expo Green Team members and have a chance to win prizes and a special Friends for Change photo as well. With these events, Disney hopes to inspire kids and families to take action and work to have a positive impact on the world.
