Disney Novel ‘The Price of Freedom’ to Offer Prequel Glimpse into Captain Jack Sparrow’s Adventures

Can’t get enough of Captain Jack and his pirate adventures? We can’t, either.  But now that the latest Pirates franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean:  On Stranger Tides, has been released, and we’ve all seen it – two or three times – how do we get more, well, Pirates?

Fortunately, Disney has us covered.

In an effort to answer all of those tricky questions that have come up throughout the course of the four Pirates films, and to give us a glimpse into the character of Captain Jack Sparrow, famed science fiction author A.C. Crispin has penned Pirates of the Caribbean:  The Price of Freedom.  The book, published by Disney Editions, introduces us to 25-year old Jack Sparrow, first mate for the East India Trading Company vessel, Fair Wind, who is just trying to make an honest living, which – of course – does not last for long.  Adventures ensue.

Crispin is well known for her ability to craft believable and detail-laden prequels for some of the world’s best known and most popular film franchises.  She has enjoyed fan acclaim and commercial success by creating back stories for Han Solo in the Star Wars prequels The Paradise Snare, The Hutt Gambit, and Rebel Dawn.  She has also written several Star Treknovels, featuring well-loved characters like Spock and Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

In addition to all of the fun details that The Price of Freedom offers about Captain Jack, you’ll meet some other familiar faces, too, like Cutler Beckett.  Readers will also learn more about how the Black Pearl came into being, will journey to that present day paradise, Disney’s Castaway Cay, for a fierce naval battle, and lots more.

Pirates of the Caribbean:  The Price of Freedom is available now through Amazon.com, or anywhere books are sold.
