Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend Draws Record Number of Participants

The curtain has fallen on another successful Disney signature marathon event, but not before records were set.

This past weekend, an event-record 22,000 runners participated in the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend events, which included a 5K, family fun races, a health and fitness expo, as well as the headlining half marathon through the streets and parks of Walt Disney World.

More than 17,000 runners participanted in the half marathon alone – many donning tutus or tiaras for the special occasion.  Thirty-three year old Jennifer Hanley-Pinto from Jacksonville, Florida, led the field for the entire race, and finished on top with a running time of 1:22:50.  Right on her heels were Caitlin Latimer of Lexington, Kentucky (1:23:14), who finished second, and hometown runner Heather Schulz from Orlando in third, with a time of 1:25:01.

The Princess Half Marathon is the second of four signature marathon events held by Disney, and is considered one of the largest endurance race events in the U.S. geared toward women.  Remaining events for 2011 include the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend will take place September 2-4, while Disney’s second Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend will kick off Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival September 30- October 1.  For more details, or to register for upcoming Disney running events, please visit the Run Disney website.
