Disney VoluntEARS Build Mater at Orange County CANstruction Event

This month, Disney VoluntEARS in California donated their time at the Orange County CANstruction event, where they built a sculpture of Mater himself out of 5,700 cans donated by the Disneyland Resort. This is Disney’s fifth year participating in the event, and the group was rewarded with the “Juror’s Favorite” award.

The Orange County CANstruction event is an annual event benefitting the Orange County Food Bank. The event, which puts structures made entirely out of canned goods on display, takes place each September in conjunction with the Festival of Children at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, CA.

The Disney VoluntEARs’ Mater sculpture took six hours to complete, and used more than 20 different types of canned foods for its construction. Mater’s main structure is made out of kidney bean cans, with pupils and eyes made from cans of mandarin oranges, evaporated milk, green beans and salmon.
