Disney’s Hollywood Studios to Get New Name

dhsSometime, perhaps in the not-too-distant-future, Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be known by a different name.

This is according to a statement made by The Walt Disney Company’s Chairman and CEO Bob Iger during Disney’s annual shareholder meeting earlier this week.

When asked (by a 6-year-old) whether the theme park would be changing its name Iger said that they would announce only that the name was being changed, but not what that new name might be.

In recent months the theme park has said goodbye to the Studio Backlot Tour and the Sorcerer’s Hat that was the park’s icon for many year. The Great Movie Ride is getting a slight re-do thanks to Turner Classic Movies, and Toy Story Midway Mania is expanding to a third track.

The last time the park had a name change was back in 2008 when it went from Disney-MGM Studios to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. But since the “Studios” part of the moniker isn’t really accurate anymore, it’s anyone’s guess what the new name might reflect.

Iger didn’t say when the new name might be announced.
