Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts announced yesterday that construction was set by the end of the year on its long-anticipated Walt Disney World Resort project.

The luxury resort, which will include hotel rooms, timeshare units, and private residences, was originally slated for completion in 2012.  However, the project stalled due to the sluggish economy and ensuing global recession.  The Four Seasons company, which is based in Toronto, originally purchased the land for the resort in 2008.

Guests of the luxury hotel will find a rooftop restaurant, a lazy river feature, and other amenities.  The Four Seasons will occupy land in the northeast area of the Walt Disney World resort, and will include the existing Osprey Ridge golf course.

The project, which is expected to employ approximately 2,000 construction workers, is scheduled for completion in mid to late 2014.  Once opened, the resort will provide several hundred jobs.  The hotel is seen by many as a draw for buyers who might be interested in Disney’s Golden Oak, an ultra luxury subdivision currently under construction on Walt Disney World property.
