New Deal between Turner Classic Movies and The Walt Disney Company Means Changes for The Great Movie Ride

great movie rideThe Walt Disney Company and the Turner Classic Movies (TCM) channel are announcing a partnership that will lead to changes at The Great Movie Ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

TCM will join two divisions of The Walt Disney Company and will not only help make the (much-needed) changes to the Great Movie Ride, but will also receive “Presented by” credits on the attraction’s posters, banners, and marquees.

The ride will also feature the TCM logo.

Other changes to the attraction reportedly include new digital movie posters in the attraction’s queue and a new pre-ride video that features TCM host Robert Osborne’s commentary. The ride’s finale will also be updated with an “all-new montage of classic movie moments.”

These “TCM-curated refresh” will be completed in the spring of 2015.

The deal also includes an agreement that Walt Disney Studios will provide TCM with vintage movies, cartoons, documentaries, and episodes of shows including ‘Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color.’ These shows will be aired periodically during a programming block called ‘Treasures From the Disney Vault.’

This special programming will be offered several times a year according to TCM. The first block of Disney programming is planned for 8 p.m. on December 21 through 5:15 a.m. on December 22. Shows planned for this block include Santa’s Workshop, a 1932 cartoon; The Disneyland Story, from 1954; and ‘The Vanishing Prairie, a documentary.

TCM is owned by Turner Entertainment Networks, a division of Turner Broadcasting System which is owned by Time Warner.
