‘Newsies’ Broadway Run is Now Open-Ended

Ever since Newsies made its debut on Broadway in March, the show has become a complete success, earning eight Tony nominations and becoming a box office smash. While the musical’s run was initially expected to end on August 19, the success of Newsies has prompted Disney Theatrical Productions to give the show an open ended run, with no closing date in sight.

“Ever since the Paper Mill Playhouse run ended six months ago, the audience has re-written the playbook for Newsies,” said Thomas Schumacher, Producer, Disney Theatrical Productions. “We continue to be astonished by a passion for this show that is as heartfelt as it is widespread and find ourselves, once again, in the wonderful position of altering our plans to respond to palpable demand.”

The current cast of Newsies is scheduled to stay with the show as it continues its Broadway run. Based on the 1992 film, Newsies tells the story of a group of determined news boys who fight for their rights in the face of injustice. The show, which is directed by Jeff Calhoun, features music by Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast) and Jack Feldman and a book by Harvey Fierstein (Torch Song Trilogy, La Cage Aux Folles).

Tickets to Newsies are currently on sale through November 18, 2012, with group sales on sale through January 2013. To purchase tickets, visit www.NewsiestheMusical.com.
