Pixar Announces New Film From ‘Toy Story 3’ Director, Reveals Details About Upcoming Films

At this week’s CinemaCon convention in Las Vegas, Pixar announced some interesting new details about their upcoming films. Following the announcement of two brand-new Pixar films at the D23 Expo last summer, this week’s presentation brought us a little closer to finding out just what these new films are all about.

The first film, previously announced as “The Untitled Pixar Movie About Dinosaurs,” is now officially titled “The Good Dinosaur.” Directed by Bob Peterson (co-director and writer of Up) with Peter Sohn, the film looks at an alternate reality in which dinosaurs never became extinct. Here is the official synopsis for the film, which is currently slated for release on May 30, 2014:

What if the cataclysmic asteroid that forever changed life on Earth actually missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? This hilarious, heartfelt and original tale is directed by Bob Peterson (co-director/writer, “Up;” writer, “Finding Nemo”) and produced by John Walker (“The Incredibles,” “The Iron Giant”).

Also discussed was the previously-announced project “The Untitled Pixar Movie that Takes You Inside the Mind.” While this project does not yet have an official title, it is currently scheduled for release on June 19, 2015. Directed by Up and Monsters Inc. director Pete Docter, here is the official synopsis of this intriguing film:

Pixar takes audiences on incredible journeys into extraordinary worlds: from the darkest depths of the ocean to the top of the tepui mountains in South America; from the fictional metropolis of Monstropolis to a futuristic fantasy of outer space. From director Pete Docter (“Up,” “Monsters, Inc.”) and producer Jonas Rivera (“Up”), the inventive new film will take you to a place that everyone knows, but no one has ever seen: the world inside the human mind.

Finally, Pixar announced a brand-new project at CinemaCon as well, which will be directed by Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich. The original film, which does not yet have a title or release date, will take place during the vibrant holiday of Día de los Muertos.

These projects all sound incredibly interesting, and we can’t wait to see what Pixar has in store. Stay tuned for more updates as these films move forward.
