The Walt Disney Company announced last week that Tom Staggs has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer of the company. Staggs was the Chairman of the Parks and Resorts division. Many see this move as positioning Staggs to replace Bob Iger as CEO in 2018.

Speaking of Bob Iger, the CEO confirmed that Star Wars Episodes 8 and 9 will in fact be released – in 2017 and 2019 respectively. These two episodes will reportedly finish this new trilogy that is starting with Star Wars: The Force Awakens in December.

Moving from the big screen to the small screen, Disney has announced that it is introducing its first Latina-inspired princess next year when Princess Elena of Avalor debuts on Disney Junior. The princess will make her debut on Sofia the First and will then move on to her very own show on the network.
