Billy Crystal Discusses Upcoming ‘Monsters University’

We’re learning a little more about the much-anticipated prequel Monsters University, and thanks to one of the stars of the film, Billy Crystal.

Crystal, who voices monster Mike Wazowski in the film, says that he’s already enjoying his time on the Disney Pixar film:

That’s why I’m a little hoarse. I spent five-and-a-half hours today for our fourth session on ‘Monsters Inc. 2.’ And I have to tell you something, it is hilarious. The Pixar people are geniuses. It’s 10 years since the first movie. Yeah, it’s crazy. And it’s a prequel. They’re in college. It’s how they met, it’s how Michael and Sully meet, and plan to become scarers at Monsters Inc. — so this movie ends where the other one starts.

Monsters University will give us the backstory to the original film Monsters, Inc., which focused on Crystal’s character, as well as his best friend James P. “Sully” Sullivan, as they have the tables turned on them when a child, who Sully is sent to scare, enters their city of Monstropolis and scares them instead.  Release of the prequel is scheduled for June 2013.
