Disneyland Rides Shut Down Temporarily Last Week Due to Smoke

Several rides in Disneyland’s Fantasyland were shut down late last week after smoke was detected backstage.  No one was injured during the incident.

More than 20 firefighters responded to a call just after noon last Thursday regarding smoke coming from an area behind Pinocchio’s Daring Journey.  When firefighters arrived, they opened the wall to find electrical conduits and wood framing within the wall charred.

As a safety precaution during the investigation, officials cut power to the ride, which also resulted in the temporary closure of six other rides, as the attractions all shared the same power source.  In all, seven rides were unavailable to guests due to the incident.  Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride was also closed for unrelated routine maintenance.

While the rides were shut down, Cast Members roped off the entrances and explained to guests that rides were down due to a power failure.

Disney began to reopen the rides around 1:45, and by 3:30, all of the rides except Pinocchio’s Daring Journey were once again open to guests.

Officials continue to investigate the cause of the incident.
