Disneynature’s New Film ‘African Cats’ to be Released on Earth Day

Disneynature has been releasing documentaries on Earth Day for the last several years, and their upcoming film African Cats promises to be just as exciting as their previous releases. The film will launch April 22, 2011 and features the awe-inspiring story of Mara, a lion cub; Sita, a fearless cheetah and mother of five newborns; and Fang, the leader of the pride who will stop at nothing to protect his family from a banished lion.

The film truly seems like a real-life version of The Lion King, and is directed by Keith Scholey and Alastair Fothergill.

To help foster their mission of conservation and awareness, Disneynature will donate a portion of ticket proceeds during the film’s opening week to the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) through the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund. The money will be used to help support and protect cheetahs, lions, zebras, elephants and more wildlife in the African savanna, as well as the Amboseli Wildlife Corridor that is frequented by these animals.

Tickets can be purchased through DisneyTicketsTogether.com, and will be available starting April 18.

And, just in case you’d like a sneak peek of the new film, here’s the trailer:
