Europe’s LOVEFiLM Subscription Service Will Now Stream Disney Movies

20 April 2011 No Comment

In a deal signed by LOVEFiLM and The Walt Disney Company U.K. & Ireland, LOVEFiLM will now stream Disney movies via its Subscription Video On Demand (SVOD) and Transactional Video On Demand (TVOD) service.

This is exciting news for European customers who subscribe to LOVEFiLM, which is Europe’s largest subscription service. Per the deal that was signed, customers can choose from a range of Disney titles to watch instantly via their PC, in-home connected devices, or their PlayStation 3 console.

The deal will include over fifty Disney films available for streaming, including Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Armageddon, Dead Poets Society and more.

Recently released Disney titles such as TRON: Legacy and Tangled will also be available via LOVEFiLM’S pay-per-view service.

Catherine Powell, SVP/GM Media Distribution, The Walt Disney Company EMEA had this to say about the deal:

We’re working with innovative partners such as LOVEFiLM to offer our programming to viewers in evermore flexible, easy to access ways, and this agreement builds on our existing DVD rental partnership to further extend the availability of our films amongst UK audiences.

The Chief Executive of LOVEFiLM, Simon Calver, also added that “Our customers will be excited to have even more great films alongside our existing physical and digital titles. This is a great endorsement of the popularity of LOVEFiLM, as Disney is one of the world’s leading studios. We look forward to working with Disney across new products as we expand our service.”

Currently, LOVEFiLM rents all available Disney titles via its rental-by-post option, but the new deal signed by the company and Disney will allow subscribers to watch some of their favorite Disney movies instantly.
