Registration Open for Walt Disney Family Museum’s Discovery Summer Camp

Sign-up is underway for the coolest summer camp ever!  Join the staff of Walt Disney Family Museum this summer as they explore all kinds of performing arts – from learning about special effects to photography outdoors to creating your own animated short – it’s all here!

Class Schedule:

Jamboree Players
2 weeks: June 27 – July 8 (no class on July 4), 9:00am – 4:00pm
Ages: 8-11

Learn to perform variety-style numbers just like your favorite Mouseketeers.  This theater camp will give young performers a chance to dance, create their own show scenes, and showcase it all on the last day of camp.  No experience is necessary to join in on the fun. 

Pencilmation: 2-D Hand Drawn Animation
2 weeks: June 27 – July 8 (no class on July 4), 9:00am – 4:00pm
Ages: 14- 17

Go back to the basics as you learn to create your own hand-drawn animation.  This two week camp will provide the traditional tools and knowledge needed to produce an animated short movie.  Guest animators, and exclusive screenings in our theater will provide inspiration.  Learn the technical aspects of storyboarding, character design, and editing, as well as to bring it all together for the final product.
 
The Art of Illusioneering
1 Week: July 11 – 15, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Ages: 11 – 13

If you’ve ever wanted to learn how your favorite special effects are created, then this is the camp for you!  Learn how your favorite theme park rides and attractions come to life.  Working in a team setting, you’ll design and create new, amazing illusions to share with family and friends.  This camp includes access to the Museum’s ten galleries, as well as the art and media centers, and will also feature advice from an expert in the field!

Artimation
1 Week:  July 18- July 22, 9:00am – 4:00pm
Ages: 7- 11

For younger campers, learn how art and animation intertwine.  Explore different ways to create animation and develop your artistic, creative ability. Have fun painting, sculpting, drawing and creating animation every day. At the end of this one week camp, artists can take home a portfolio and a DVD of original work.

Direct Your Own True Life Adventure  
1 Week: July 25-29, 9:00am – 4:00pm
Ages: 11-13

Budding directors will enjoy this crash course in documentary film.  Using soundtrack, editing and state-of-the-art camera technology, this class will explore the extraordinary in the ordinary:  San Francisco’s amazing Presidio will become the subject of their films.  Capture the ever-evolving landscape, architecture, people and everyday hustle and bustle of this historic park.  Learn what it takes to make a great and gripping documentary by highlighting the special in the everyday things.
 
Beyond the Funny Pages: Creating Comic Books
1 Week: July 25-29, 9:00am – 4:00pm
Ages: 7-11

Young campers have the chance to create their very own comice books!  Learn how to tell a story using visual imagery and creative dialogue.  Discover the secrets of comic book writing – from storyboarding to illustrating emotional expressions and the illusion of movement. 

Pre- and post-camp care are also available:  per week 8-9 a.m. is $25.00, and 4-5:30 p.m. is $40.00.
