The Walt Disney Studios Announces Reimagining of ‘The Lion King’ with Director Jon Favreau

lion_kingThe Walt Disney Studios has announced that the classic film The Lion King will be reimagined in a new project from director Jon Favreau.

The hit film The Jungle Book – also a live-action reimagining by Favreau – earned $965.8 million worldwide. A sequel to The Jungle Book is in development.

The Lion King will include songs from the animated film – much like the 2017 live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson as Belle.

The Lion King was released in 1994 and is one of the most successful animated films of all time, winning two Academy Awards and two Grammy Awards. The stage version of The Lion King debuted on Broadway in 1997 and is one of the biggest Broadway hits.

There is no release date for this new retelling of The Lion King.
