Disney Leadership Sees Universal’s Success as a Good Thing for Business

It seems to be unanimous:  while some express concern about the wild success of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the new star attraction of Universal’s Islands of Adventure theme park in Orlando, at least two Disney executives see the park as a good thing for Orlando, and for Disney in particular.
In a recent interview with the St. Petersburg Times, Tom Staggs, chairman of Disney’s theme park division, acknowledged that, while there may be some impact to Disney’s Florida theme park attendance, it’s hard to quantify the effect.  He added that …

MasterChef to Hold Open Casting Call in Orlando

This is definitely the week to be in Orlando if you like to cook and want to be on television!
Last week, Food Network was in town holding a casting call for 24 Hour Restaurant Battle.  This week, it’s Gordon Ramsay’s turn.

Food Network Holds Open Casting Call for 24 Hour Restaurant Battle in Orlando

Tower of Terror Case: Jury Finds Disney Not Negligent

Disney World has been given reprieve on one of the several accusations of safety negligence that have popped up in the past year. A jury decided on Monday that a Philadelphia man’s lawsuit claiming Disney’s Tower of Terror ride caused his 1998 stroke would not stand. Their verdict determined that there was no “dangerous condition on the tower ride called Tower of Terror on March 28, 1998, about which the Walt Disney World Co. either knew or should have known, by the use of reasonable care… .”

Top High Speed Train Makers Aim at Disney

Top high speed train (or bullet train) makers from China and Japan are giving serious consideration to having Walt Disney World one of their stops, and Disney is behind it.
The New York Times is reporting that, “Central Japan Railway and China South Locomotive & Rolling Stock are competing for the $8 billion that President Barack Obama has granted for 13 high-speed corridors across the United States, including a line between Tampa and Orlando in Florida that may include a station at the Walt Disney resort near Orlando.”
