Disney VoluntEARS Help Clean the World, Combat Cholera

One Central Florida group has found a way to give unused and discarded soaps and shampoos from Walt Disney World Resort hotels a new lease on life. And Disney’s dedicated group of VoluntEARS are helping with the initiative.
Disney VoluntEARS, Disney’s company-wide program for employee volunteerism, work with Clean the World, an Orlando-based nonprofit, to collect, sanitize, and repackage discarded toiletries from the nearly 28,000 hotel rooms on Disney property, in order to distribute them to people in need domestically and worldwide.

Aulani Collaborates With State of Hawai’i on Photo Collage

Celebrating Hawaiian culture and history as well as the sense of harmony embodied in the Aloha spirit has been a guiding principle for Disney since beginning work on Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa,  set to open next year in Ko Olina, Hawai’i.  A clear example of dedication to this principle is the artwork to be displayed in the resort, and for one project, Disney called upon the children of Hawai’i to lend a helping hand.

Magic Kingdom Wishes Dessert Party Extended

With the return of fabulous, cooler, drier evenings to Central Florida, a story that Disney Food Blog first brought to us in July is getting new attention:  the Tomorrowland Terrace Private Wishes Dessert party has been extended until December 29!  Why am I speaking in exclamation points?  Dessert!  Party!  Extended!

Disney to Offer Hotel Room Booking on Priceline

Bargain hunters interested in staying on Walt Disney World property have never found the resort’s hotel rooms on Priceline.com, but that is about to change.  After years of avoiding the website, with its claims of “No one does deals like we do,” Disney has announced that Walt Disney World hotel rooms will become part of Priceline’s inventory next month.
Disney rooms will only be available through the site’s conventional booking engine, however.  Guests looking to use Priceline’s “Name Your Own Price,” will need to stay elsewhere.  “We are not participating in …

Disney Dream to Float Out of Dry Dock this Weekend

Get your suntan lotion and flip flops ready – The Disney Dream is one step closer to sailing its maiden voyage!  The massive ship will have its first chance to float this weekend, according to Meyer Werft, the German shipyard building the vessel.
The 4,000-passenger ship will leave the protection of its covered construction dock for the shipyard’s harbor to undergo tests to its stabilizers and rudders.  It will remain along the harbor’s pier as construction to its interior continues for at least another two weeks.

Disney’s ‘Tangled’ Has an Opening Act at the El Capitan

Disney is turning a regular day at the movies into an event to remember.  Audiences taking in their new animated film, “Tangled,” at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, will be treated to an all-new live stage show before each screening from November 24 until December 16.
The El Capitan, an historic theatre in downtown Hollywood, has been restored to its early twentieth-century opulence.  The theatre is leased by Disney, and serves as an exclusive first run theatre for Walt Disney Pictures.
Disney’s milestone fiftieth animated feature will be shown at the theatre in 3D.  The …

Jersey Shore’s DJ Pauly D to Headline Disney’s Grad Nite 2011

You might not know who he is.  But I bet your kids do.
Paul Delvecchio – aka DJ Pauly D from the MTV show “Jersey Shore” – was caught on camera at Magic Kingdom last week, comparing notes with Goofy.  Delvecchio will return to Walt Disney World Resort next spring as a featured performer for Disney’s Grad Nite 2011.

ABC’s “No Ordinary Family” Picked Up for the Season

Comic book meets ordinary life seems to be working:  ABC has ordered a full season of the drama “No Ordinary Family.” 
Along with other networks, ABC announced the status of several of its shows earlier this week.  Other new shows that are being picked up on the network include the sitcom “Better With You,” about three couples in different stages of their relationships; and “Detroit 1-8-7,” which takes a look at the world of Detroit homicide detectives. The veteran show “Brothers and Sisters” will also stick around for the rest of the …
