Disney Engineers Make Learning ‘Magic’ for Local Children
A team of Disney engineers are spending some time at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida this summer. On a mission to make learning math, science, & technology fun mechanical engineer Lee Wilson has spent five years developing educational programs with real-life applications & a dash of Disney magic. Boys & Girls Club service director Jose Bastias & the team of Disney engineers believe that this rich experience scaffolds children into a level beyond their current knowledge while inspiring students to become the innovators of tomorrow.
“A program like this opens their eyes to see different things,” said Bastias, who points out this introduction to engineering may inspire the kids to consider careers in math, science or technology.” (-WDW Public Relations)
Approximately 120 kids have participated in the presentations that include mechanical props resembling rides and attractions from Disney Parks; like an animatronic Tiki Bird, roller coaster, and a hovercraft.
“It’s electric to see them getting excited about math and science,” says Lee Wilson, who takes great delight in working with his team to win over young audiences.” (-WDW Public Relations)
