Progress Underway on Hyperion Wharf at Downtown Disney

Concept Art for the Upcoming Hyperion Wharf

As visitors to Walt Disney World walk through Downtown Disney’s Marketplace, through the area once known as Pleasure Island, and onto Westside, many have wondered if work on the former nightlife attraction, now shuttered, would ever begin.

The answer is yes!

While most of what is taking place at this point is the dismantling of the old clubs and nightlife hotspots, it is progress, and it signals the beginning of what will eventually become Hyperion Wharf.  The work, which is scheduled to be completed in phases, is currently underway on what will become a grassy park area.  If Disney holds to the original timeframe announced late last year, we could see Phase I of the project opened by this summer.  So if your next trip to Walt Disney World comes this summer or later, hopefully you’ll have something new to see while you await the opening of the new Fantasyland attractions.

No word yet on what shops or restaurants will be located in Hyperion Wharf – we’re still awaiting that news.  However, an unidentified source does say that the familiar and glitzy Pleasure Island sign will be coming down soon, so if it’s a favorite for you, I would head over to get the last few pictures of it before it becomes a distant memory.
