Downtown Disney to Officially Be Renamed Disney Springs on September 29

After months of waiting, Downtown Disney will officially be known as Disney Springs next week.
A renaming ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29 at Waterview Park at 5 p.m.
The official renaming will take place just one day before the grand opening of Morimoto Asia, a pan-Asian restaurant owned by Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto.
Signs surrounding Downtown Disney have been updated recently with the new moniker, as have signs on Interstate 4.

New Restaurant from the Patina Group Announced for Disney Springs

As work continues in the transformation of Downtown Disney into Disney Springs, there’s word that a new restaurant from the Patina Restaurant Group is headed to area.
Recently paperwork was filed in Orange County for a permit on two former Pleasure Island venues – the old 8Trax and Mannequin’s. The permit states that a new restaurant owned by the Patina Restaurant Group will be located there.
The plans for the restaurant include “two floors, a dining area, kitchen, [and] cast and guest restrooms.”

Walt Disney World Celebrating Attractions of Yesteryear at D23 Destination D: Attraction Rewind

D23: The Official Disney Fan Club is celebrating Disney attractions of yesteryear this fall at the D23 Destination D: Attraction Rewind event.
Attractions including ‘If You Had Wings,’ ‘Adventure Thru Inner Space,’ ’20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,’ and others will be remembered through stories, vintage videos, and concept art.
The two-day event takes place November 22 and 23 at the Walt Disney World Resort. One full day of the event will be dedicated to the New York World’s Fair of 1964-65 – the same fair where ‘it’s a small world’ and ‘Carousel …

Comedy Warehouse Holiday Special Returns at Walt Disney World Resort

The family-friendly Comedy Warehouse Holiday Special will return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios to bring laughter into the hearts of park visitors this season.
The show, which will run from December 25 until December 31, will be held at the ABC Sound Studio Theater and feature improvisational comedy acts, including past performers from the Pleasure Island Comedy Club. In addition to their own humor, performers will be taking guest requests throughout the special as they reinvent classic holiday stories, poems, songs and more.

Michaels Stores Joins Downtown Disney’s Festival of the Masters

Downtown Disney’s Festival of the Masters, a popular outdoor art festival, has partnered with Michaels Stores to bring exciting new opportunities to guests who attend.
In addition to hands-on “Make It, Take It” craft booths and how-to presentations, which will run Friday through Sunday, Michaels design team members will be on the West Side demonstrating how to custom-frame art. They will also be offering tips on digital scrapbooking, creating photo books and helping guests make a “larger than life” masterpiece.

Downtown Disney’s Hyperion Wharf Construction Stalled, New Bowling Experience to Open

We previously announced some exciting new changes coming to Walt Disney World’s Downtown Disney, including an overhaul to the Pleasure Island area. Today, Disney gave us an update on the area’s progress.
Downtown Disney has already seen some exciting new changes recently. The AMC Movie Theater in Downtown Disney’s West Side recently added a brand-new in-theatre dining experience in May, and the LEGO Imagination Center was recently expanded in Downtown Disney’s Marketplace section. Progress Underway on Hyperion Wharf at Downtown Disney

As visitors to Walt Disney World walk through Downtown Disney’s Marketplace, through the area once known as Pleasure Island, and onto Westside, many have wondered if work on the former nightlife attraction, now shuttered, would ever begin.
The answer is yes!

Hyperion Wharf to Take Place of Pleasure Island at Downtown Disney

Move over, Pleasure Island:  make way for Hyperion Wharf.
We knew that Disney was about to move on something at the forlorn Pleasure Island site that many of us have passed by on the way from West Side to Marketplace.  After all, news that construction permits had been applied for – and granted – leaked out last month.  We just didn’t know what or when. 
But today, we’re a little closer to knowing more about the future of Pleasure Island’s second life.  And it looks pretty good, actually.

Walt Disney World’s “Pleasure Island” Overhaul is Coming Soon

NBC affiliate “WESH 2 News” in Orlando, Florida is reporting that Disney has filed two construction permits pertaining to the now defunct “Pleasure Island” that stands nearly desolate in the middle of Downtown Disney.
