rivers of lightAfter many, many months of anticipation we finally know when the new nighttime spectacular, Rivers of Light, is opening at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

The date: Earth Day, April 22!

This new nighttime show takes places on the Discovery River in the Asia area of the Animal Kingdom.

Rivers of Light starts with an ancient lantern festival guided by two storytellers who “call fort four animal Spirit Guides” – an Asian Tiger, a Tropical Turtle, an African Elephant, and the Great Horned Owl. The show is based on the mythology of the Rivers of Light – what we know today as the aurora borealis.

The show features performers, floating lanterns, special effects, and theatrical imagery that is projected on giant water screens. The animal Spirit Guides return throughout the show as they lead the audience through the Rivers of Light.

You can catch a sneak preview of Rivers of Light in this video.
