The Week in Disney News: ‘Captain EO’ Closing, Star Wars Imperial Meet and Greet, and More

It’s been another busy week in the world of Disney news! We found out more details about Season of the Force at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and we got news that Captain EO is closing forever in December! Let’s get started!
Starting December 1 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney Visa cardholders will have access to an exclusive Imperial Meet-and-Greet location! The Star Wars Launch Bay is scheduled to open on December 1 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the exclusive meet-and-greet spot will be open from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily.

Epcot’s ‘Captain EO’ to Close Forever on December 6 Making Way for New Pixar Experience

This time they mean it.
Captain EO, the long-running (and long-suffering) film starring Michael Jackson as the title character is finally closing at Epcot. For good this time.
The last time Captain EO “closed” was to make way for an Inside Out preview in May. Prior to that the Magic Eye Theater was being used for a sneak peek at Tomorrowland starring George Clooney.
But this time Captain EO is really going away to make room for a new experience – Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival.

Sneak Peek of ‘Inside Out’ Coming to Epcot this Summer

An exclusive sneak peek of the new Disney/Pixar film Inside Out is coming to Epcot at the end of this month.
The preview will be shown at the Pavilion Theater in Epcot (home of Captain EO). Currently a sneak preview of Tomorrowland is showing at the theater.
The Inside Out sneak peek will start May 30. Guests visiting Epcot for the Flower and Garden Festival will also have a chance to check out the Inside Out Emotion Garden.

This Week in Disney News: Epcot Attraction News, Possible New Restaurant at the Magic Kingdom, and a New Itinerary for Disney Cruise Line

We’ve almost made it through the month of March and once again it’s been a week full of exciting Disney news! Let’s dive in!
Another attraction at Epcot is closing. Innoventions West in Future World will close in May for a refurbishment – which means they’re taking out the current attractions and replacing them with new ones. Say goodbye to the Great Piggy Bank Adventure.
The new film Tomorrowland opens in theaters on May 22 but starting next month guests at Epcot (and Disneyland) can get an extended preview of the film. …

Sneak Preview of ‘Tomorrowland’ Coming to Epcot and Disneyland Beginning in April

Disney’s newest film, Tomorrowland, hits theaters in May but guests on both coasts will have a chance to see an extended sneak peek of the film starting in April.
The exclusive preview of Tomorrowland will be shown with special in-theater effects at the Imagination Pavilion theater in Epcot and at the Tomorrowland Theater in Disneyland.
At Epcot, this preview means that Captain EO will be closed beginning April 10. The preview of Tomorrowland will start the next week. There’s no official word yet on when Captain EO will return to Epcot.

EO Fans Get a Free Upgrade at Hilton Bonnet Creek Resort

The Hilton Bonnet Creek Resort is offering what they call an “off-beat” promotion this summer. To celebrate the return of “Captain EO” to Epcot, fans of the 1980’s Michael Jackson 3D film can receive a free “Disney-view” upgrade when they wear a Jackson-inspired silver sequined glove during check-in at the resort!
What’s particularly intriguing about the Bonnet Creek properties is their proximity to Walt Disney World. When Walt was purchasing property for his Florida Project, the Bonnet Creek owners were the only holdouts. They never sold the land to Disney, and …

Captain EO Returns to Epcot

July 2 marked the day that Captain EO was schedule to return to Epcot. The show has been absent from the park since it closed in 1994, but has returned in honor of the passing of its star Michael Jackson.
While the attraction has already been back in place at Disneyland for some time, it has taken a while to return to Disney World. It was replaced by Honey I Shrunk the Audience in 1994. It has not been stated how long Disney plans to keep the 17 …

Captain EO Headed Back to it’s Original Home, EPCOT in Walt Disney World

After a popular reopening this past February in California’s Disneyland, Captain EO is ready to spread it’s futuristic nostalgia across Disney parks worldwide. Set to celestially transport guests in Disneyland Paris & Tokyo Disneyland this coming June, the announcement many fans were waiting for came today; Captain EO is returning to Walt Disney World! Thomas Smith, social media director for Disney Parks, made the announcement today that starting July 2nd Captain EO will return to EPCOT, which originally housed Captain EO during it’s debut run.

Captain EO Returning to Disneyland Paris

Although not yet announced, sources are reporting that Captain EO’s move back to Disneyland Paris is confirmed to occur in July.
Michael Jackson and friends will take over the theater currently housing Honey I Shrunk the Audience, which will close at the end of April.
There is no word as to how long EO will stay in DLRP’s Discoveryland.

Captain EO Pin Coming To Disneyland

For all of you Michael Jackson and Captain EO fans, a new trading pin is going to arrive very soon in Disneyland to commemorate the re-opening of the popular 3D film!
Julie Young, a developer of open-edition pins for the Walt Disney Company, has just received artwork for the pin and said the pin itself will arrive at Disneyland Park in early May.
