Disney Releasing ‘Robin Hood 40th Anniversary Edition’ and ‘Sword in the Stone 50th Anniversary Edition’ on Blu-ray This August

Two Disney film classics are celebrating big anniversaries with their release on Blu-ray this summer.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Disney animated classic Robin Hood and to commemorate this milestone the film will be released on Blu-ray for the first time .
In the film, Robin Hood and his trusted companion Little John along with the Merry Men outfox the greedy Prince John to save the people of Nottingham. Robin won’t rest until he wins the hand of Maid Marian and restores King Richard to the throne.

Author Sues Disney for a Second Time Citing Copyright Infringement Related to ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Films

Royce Matthew, a Florida-based author, recently filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against The Walt Disney Company alleging that the company took and used his work and ideas in the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise.
This is the second time Matthew has sued Disney with regard to the Pirates film series.
Matthew first filed a lawsuit against Disney in 2005 after he viewed the first Pirates of the Caribbean film. During the discovery process of that lawsuit he reportedly provided evidence that his work – the low-budget film Supernatural Pirates – was …

New Parade to Debut at the Magic Kingdom in 2014

Disney’s Magic Kingdom is getting a brand new parade in the spring of 2014, according to an announcement made yesterday at the “Monstrous Summer” press event.
The parade, named the Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade, celebrates New Fantasyland with innovative parade floats, vibrant costumes, and an all new original soundtrack featuring songs from Disney films and a theme song for the parade.
Stories highlighted in the parade include The Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty, Dumbo, Pinocchio, Peter Pan, Tangled, and Disney/Pixar’s Brave.

Layoffs Begin at The Walt Disney Company

Amid news this week of impending staff cuts at The Walt Disney Company, reports appeared online Thursday that nine veteran animators were let go from their positions at the Walt Disney Animation Studios.
Tom Bancroft, a former Disney animator, took to Twitter on Thursday afternoon and announced the names of the animators whose jobs were eliminated. According to several online sources the animators receiving pink slips are: Nik Ranieri, Ruben Aquino, Frans Vischer, Russ Edmonds, Brian Ferguson, Jamie Lopez and Dan Tanaka. Staff Cuts Expected at Walt Disney Company Amid Reorganization

In an attempt to position the company for future growth, a significant number of jobs will be eliminated at the Walt Disney Company. Many of those jobs will likely be at the movie studio and may include marketing, production, and home entertainment positions.

Mariah Carey Records Song for Disney’s ‘Oz The Great and Powerful’

Today, Disney has announced that superstar Mariah Carey has recorded a song for Disney’s upcoming Oz The Great and Powerful.
The song, called “Almost Home,” will be released as a single on February 19, 2013. Long-time collaborator David LaChapelle will direct Carey in the music video for her single. Previously, LaChapelle photographed the recording artist for various album covers and directed her music video for “Loverboy.”

Kenneth Branagh In Talks to Direct Disney’s Live-Action ‘Cinderella’

When Disney broke the news that Mark Romanek would no longer be directing their live-action version of Cinderella, the fate of the highly anticipated film was unclear.
