Happy Sunday! We’re back with another recap of the week’s biggest Disney news stories!
Last Sunday Hurricane Irma meant the closure of the Walt Disney World Resort for two days. The theme parks reopened on September 12 with mostly minimal damage.
The Walt Disney Company announced a $2.5 million donation to the relief efforts following Hurricane Irma.
In non-hurricane news, J.J. Abrams was announced as the writer and director for Star Wars: Episode IX.
An extended sneak preview of Disney/Pixar’s Coco is coming to the Disney Parks in November.

The Walt Disney Company Commits $2.5 Million to Hurricane Irma Relief Efforts

The Walt Disney Company has announced it will donate $2.5 million in aid funds to the Hurricane Irma relief efforts.
The funds will go to relief organizations including the American Red Cross, UNICEF, Save the Children, and others.
Eligible Disney employee donations to organizations involved in Hurricane Irma relief will be matched dollar for dollar by the Disney Employee Matching Gifts: A Program of The Walt Disney Company Foundation.
The Company also matched employee donations for Hurricane Harvey relief, and to date has raised nearly $16 million for Harvey relief.

Hurricane Irma’s Impact on the Walt Disney World Resort

Sunday night, Hurricane Irma took a somewhat unexpected turn toward the Orlando area and the Walt Disney World Resort experienced heavy wind and rains overnight.
The Disney World theme parks, Disney Springs, and the ESPN Wide World of Sports all remain closed today, September 11.
However, they will reopen tomorrow, Tuesday, September 12.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Disney is in the process of assessing damage and the Orlando area – including Disney World guests – are under a curfew until 6 p.m. today.

The Week in Disney News: Disney World Closes Ahead of Hurricane Irma, New Holiday Events Announced, and More

Welcome to another edition of our weekly news recap. Today we’re sending our thoughts to all our friends and readers in the path of Hurricane Irma.
The Walt Disney World Resort is closed today and tomorrow due to Hurricane Irma. The hotels remain open but all theme parks, water parks, Disney Spring, and the ESPN Wide World of Sports are closed until at least Tuesday.

Breaking News: Disney World to Close Theme Parks and Disney Springs on Saturday Evening

The Walt Disney World Resort is closing its theme parks Saturday night and they will remain closed through Monday.
Disney announced that Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom will close at 7 p.m. Saturday night. The Magic Kingdom and Epcot will close at 9 p.m.
All four theme parks will remain closed through Monday.
Typhoon Lagoon will close Saturday at 5 p.m. and will remain closed through Monday – Blizzard Beach was closed today and will remain closed through Monday.

Disney Cancels Night of Joy and Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party this Weekend

Hurricane Irma is on track to hit Florida this weekend, and although the path still remains uncertain Disney has announced event cancellations for this weekend.
The Saturday evening session of the Night of Joy concerts has been cancelled and Sunday night’s Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at the Magic Kingdom has also been cancelled.
Guests with tickets for Saturday’s Night of Joy concerts can attend Friday’s concerts instead and may exchange their tickets at the ESPN Wide World of Sports ticket office beginning at 4 p.m. Friday.
